• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Now I have my XTS working. I've played around with it, and have some questions. When I press a combination of buttons during SERVICE mode, it comes up with this on the display:

1 CSQ
25 KHZ

When I press the button with one dot on the side of the radio, it toggles between:

USQ
CSQ
TPL
AST

When I press the button with two dots also on the side of the radio, it toggles between 1 and 6. When I press the purple button, it toggles between 12.5 KHz and 25 KHz.

While in "CH TEST", if I press the purple button and the PANIC button, it will come up with two numbers separated by a "/". Each button seems to be assigned a different number.

It's a self test mode. I assume you got there by punching the button above the PTT 5 times right after bootup?

Yes, that's correct. I still would like to know what it means.

I believe it sets the radio to predefined channel states. A certain freq with carrier squelch when in CSQ mode, tone squelch when in TPL, etc....

It's so a tech can quickly test main functions without having to read and program test data to a radio before servicing it.

I was told that a certain variant can be programmed via the keypad. I was told that the number at the very end of the Flashcode determines it. Mine ends with 2-5.

Read your radio with CPS and take a look at the Radio Information screen. It will list all the installed options.

You're looking for Q52 or Q53 for Front Panel Programming.

Pop your flashcode into Here (on the right). It'll tell you all your flash options.

Did that. It wasn't FPP. Oh, well...

FPP has never been a legit option on the 800mhz XTS5000.....
It is a legit option on the VHF radios and is becoming abundant in the surplus market, since I see you have a VHF unit. I though almost everyone in that area had jumped on board the trunked system.

Naw...mine's just for monitoring. All surrounding counties (Burleson, Grimes, Madison, Robertson, Washington, and Milam counties) still have VHF...and that's not likely to change anytime soon. Grimes County has been planning to convert their primary freq to VHF P25 for a while now, but that's yet to happen.
