I seem to recall some discussion about a year or two ago about the city of Newark building out their own TRS. I believe it was mentioned that, at the time, the new system was expected to go online in 2021. I did a search and I can't seem to find the thread with that discussion. Does anyone recall or have further information on this?

I thought I remember some talk about Newark going on the Essex county P25 system they were building. Not much progress as it currently only has one talkgroup for county fire mutual aid.

That would make sense. But let's remember, this is New Jersey we're talking about.

Newark was building their own for all City services (including Fire coming off NJICS). County building their own (Sheriff, Prosecutor, OEM etc.). Agencies within Essex on NJICS would be given an opportunity to come on board but I'm told many are happy on NJICS, so we'll see how that turn out. Not to mention 1) as you stated, so far the only activity is the MAC patch and 2) when I asked about the progress of Newark, I was told "delayed, and where is the money." So FWIW.

West Orange would be a great candidate to join the county system. You have to wonder how much longer they can hang onto their current EDACS system.

I've got it on good authority that NPD will be full time encrypted once they do make the move. As far as a time line goes, I've heard anywhere from two to five years. So much for transparency...

That EDACS system goes up and down. I can be one town over and sometimes I have 0 bars.
