I just bought the PRO-96 handheld digital trunking scanner. I entered all the frequencys for my police department and the talkgroup I want to listen to. The scanner is not picking up what I set it to do. It is picking up other police stations and not the specific one. I'm not sure what it is i'm doing wrong here but before they went digital all i did was input the frequncy and the talkgroup id and it was good to go. Any help is appreciated.

Make sure you have all the control channels programmed, the bank set to MOT, each control channel is set to MOT, and it should work. If you want it to only receive one talkgroup, program that talkgroup in the Talkgroup Bank and set the scanner to Closed Mode.

Hope This Helps, :)

not sure what you mean about control channels
I set all the frequencies in bank 0
then when i push func then trunk it says
Bank 0-0 ON
ID No. 00
MOT: 01904
ID# 01904

That is the talkgroup id for Essex

I dont know how to close the banks and the other stuff you mentioned
I just bought the scanner tonight.

Ok, when you look at the system's listing on this site's database, you will see frequencies that are highlighted RED. These are the control channels for that system, these are the only frequencies you need to program into the scanner. When you enter these frequencies, make sure each is set to Motorola Mode or MOT (press MODE until MOT appeares at the top right). Also, make sure the bank is set to MOT (press FUNC+TRUNK, then press MODE until MOT appears).

When you scan, it should work. Closed mode lets you only hear talkgroups that are currently programmed into your talkgroup memory, letting you hear only what you program. To do this, hit FUNC + 0 (I think).

Hope This helps, :) :)

What system are you trying to monitor? What county is it in?

Okay, on this link: http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=189

See where it says "System Frequencies" about 1/4 way down the page? See the frequencies in red? Those are the only frequencies you need to program, the ones in red. Make sure you set each to MOT, and set the bank to MOT also.

Now, Essex dispatch has a talkgroup of 1904. So, hit PRGM, then hit TRUNK. You should be in the talkgroup sub-bank. Press 1904 into the keypad and press ENT.

Then, press MAN. Press FUNC + 0 (zero). This puts it into closed mode, letting you only hear the talkgroup you programmed, essex dispatch.

How do I set the bank to MOT ?? I know the Primary Control Channels are set to MOT because it says +MO next to all of them. I tried the Func + 0 and it is still scanning other talkgroups. Not sure what is going on. When I hit PRGM, then hit TRUNK this is what it reads

Bank 0-0 ON
ID No. 00
MOT: 01904
ID# 01904

It appears from that screen that you already have the bank set to MOT, so that is good. And my apologies, to set it to closed mode, press FUNC + 5. You should be all set to scan now. You know it's in closed mode if at the top right of the screen it displays -MO.
If it says +MO, you are in open mode.

All that went well thanx so much. I am not that far from where the central dispatch is and I am having to walk around my house to find a good place to pick up conversation. Is there something I can do to make the signal stronger or is the attenna that came with it as good as it gets ???

lol no problem, glad it works now. Radioshack sells an 800 MHz antenna that really helps with picking up the signal. Good luck! :)
