Hello,

I'm a newbie when it comes to scanners and was looking for some help. I recently bought a used Radio Shack Pro-2050 and after reading the manual, I'm still confused. I searched through the "Radio Shack" forum and found this link:
Programming Shortcut Pro-2050 - The RadioReference Wiki

But I'm still in the dark because I basically don't understand my local frequencies or what trunk type it is.

Here's a link to the county that I want to program:
Volusia County Public Safety Trunking System, Volusia County, Florida - Scanner Frequencies

Under "System Frequencies" I'm interested in Site #1 County West

Under "System Talkgroups" I'm interested in Volusia County FIRE/EMS Talkgroups
290 02-042 A FIRE 2 Westside Fire Dispatch (repeats 154.34 MHz) Fire-Tac
291 02-043 A TAC 3 TAC 3 Fire-Tac

308 02-064 A TAC 15 TAC 15 - Fire Police Fire-Tac
321 02-081 A EVAC 1 EMS Dispatch Ch.1 EMS Dispatch

Under "Volusia County Sheriff Talkgroups" I'm interested in only
177 01-061 A VC LE-2 District-2 (Northwest) Law Dispatch

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks ~ John

John,
Welcome to Radio Reference

I don't own that model, but checking the Wiki page for the Pro-2050, I see an apparent problem.

If you check the page I linked, you'll see that the 2050 is described as a "Trunking scanner for 800 Mot I, II". Those are two types of trunked radio systems, both designed by Motorola, and are the only two that scanner will track.

However, the system you are interested in, Volusia County Public Safety, is neither one of those. If you'll look at the database page for that system, check the description under "System Type". You'll see that it says EDACS Networked Standard.

EDACS is an entirely different form of trunking. To monitor this, you'd need a scanner capable of that. The system is listed as 'analog', so you would not need a digital trunktracker, but you would need an analog one. You can find a list here. Just be sure that under the category RR System Compatibility, the scanner lists EDACS Standard Network or EDACS Standard (Wide).

However, there are some conventional (non-trunked) frequencies showing in your county, that you could monitor. Some of them are noted as being simulcasts of specific talkgroups from the trunked system. Depending on your location (within the county), you may also be able to pick up some transmissions from conventional channels in the adjoining counties as well. You might get more suggestions on these down in the Florida forum.

Many thanks on that informative post Steve!

Fortunately I was able to cancel my order and I'll look for a EDACS compatibility.

Oh yeah, thanks for the link. Every helpful.

And I did post this within the FL forum.

Be well ~ John
