Hi, I live in Rootstown. Let me know if you need any Portage Co. Frequencies. What part of Brimfield do you live in?

Hi Troy,

I live on Tallmadge road just past Sherman road. I did buy the Arc996 software and trying to program the scanner and I am slowly getting it. Understanding Trunking at this moment has my mind scrambled. I did find the Portage Co. frequencies on this site and successfully scanning the Analog Channels. Thanks for the offer. I will take any programming advice you may have on the Digital channels (Summit County). Or if you or someone you know that would send me there system file from our area. LOL!!!

Ah, Looking at your past posts on this board I know who I am talking too now. I looked your number up but see you are unlisted. I left you a PM with phone number, Give me a call when you get a moment. I did get my scanner programmed with the ARC996 software and it is working great. Between Portage and Summit County there is non stop action. Before this scanner I had a 10 Channel Bearcat, i did realize how much I have been missing. LOL! Give me a call Paul!!

Hey there fellas -

Its funny that I saw this post in this forum. I personally live in Aurora and am mulling over whether to buy a new APCO-25 digital trunking scanner (BC996D) or something more simple, like the BCT15 without APCO-25. Considering you're all in the area, maybe you can sway my opinion one way or the other?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Hello Brian,

I picked up my 996 in early January and I am very happy with it. 2 weeks ago I purchased a Pro-96 and I really like it plus its on sale at Rat Shack right now. As you know Portage is Analog. If you are only planning on scanning Portage you do not need digital. If you wanted to scan Summit you would need Digital but I am not sure in Aurora if you could pick up Summit County. Hope this helps! Don't miss out on the Rat Shack sale. If you would want me to bring my 996 or Pro-96 to your location to see how well the signal comes in drop me a note.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Brian,
That Action Seeker dude has good advice. If you just want to monitor Portage County publice service agencies (execept the Highway Patrol who are on digital frequencies) then an analog scanner will do. However, if you want to tune in on the excitement of Akron P.D., State Hwy Patrol, etc. then you should consider a digital scanner. I have a PRO-96 and am very pleased with it. In the event that Portage County ever goes digital (which they have been considering, although not seriously at this point) then you will not need to buy another scanner to monitor them.

Thanks guys!

My buddy who was down in St. Louis keeps talking up the 996 so knowing that he and I have the same taste, it seems to be the radio for me too. I am very interested in the MARCS service as well as OSHP so it looks like the APCO 25 codec will have to be a stock feature in whatever radio I purchase. Either of you gents in amateur radio at all? If you are I'm in the process of installing several mobile radios into the blazer and some NMO style antennas in the roof of it so once I'm done, after a 6 year absence, I will be back on the air!
