Has anyone heard of the Nexcom Vdl Mode 3 being cancelled and no longer plans for digital modulation on the voice portion of the airband 118-136megs

No it wouldn't!!!!

I think their would be a great amount of problems with this, all these old planes out their that wouldn't have space, or possibly even the technology to do this. It is a whole lot easier to use AM. And I'm sure a lot better until you get everything worked out.

It would require a lot of changes in the industry- can you imagine every jet, prop, etc having to be redone for new radios? And all the AM radios (Such as myself) that use them for backup, and for around the airport. It'd be a mess!! The radio industry would sure love it though :)

I'm sure it will happen one day... probably not soon. It will probably be the next agenda after ADS-B/Mode S gets integrated in 2020 (Yeah right! I'm waiting to see that one happen!)

Not a surprise... In the end, sanity prevailed, and they realized it's a giant boondoggle. Maybe not the end, but probably the end for a long time. Adopting the basic channel split in the US is plenty effective enough for now. But they'll keep on going round and round with this for years, trying to force feed it to everybody... Or some similar miracle technology.
