I was able to put to use my PRO97 this week and not only watch but listen as the NIPAS team worked a barricaded house. It was quite interesting, while at the same time quite sobering. 867.0125 hz

NIPAS is good stuff. I've seen them deploy twice by me, once right down the block from my house. Interesting stuff.

I was very impressed by their professionalism. Even though they were loaded for bear, they never came across as overly aggressive.

what does NIPAS stand for?

NIPAS stands for "Northern Illinois Police Alarm System"
They have multiple functions, but one is the Emergency Services Team, better known as SWAT from the old TV series.

NIPAS has been around for 15 years or so. The NIPAS Team consists of at least 1 police officer from each of the departments that have a contract with the team. If you do not have an officer that is on the team, you may pay to have access to the use of the team. The team is divided into several sub teams; IE: croud control, hostage, warrant, etc... Instead of every department having their own individual SWAT Team (which is more than expensive), each department can have one with little expense.
