i'm not sure yet how far north Irene will barrel up the coast or how strong it will be but I'm making some preperations for power loss and flooding. Charging all radios and spare batteries checking lanterns and batteries and charging my 12V batteries for scanners & lighting. Going to setup an indoor Antenna for the scanners and find my 12v power cables

Made a couple lists for a Costco run Wed am and gas tank fillups, i can only imagine when the general public thinks the storm will actually hit what the stores will look like.

Don't wait till the last minute if you can, stay safe and in touch. if you guys have any freqs we should monitor state wide let me know and I'll program it in

If the storm does makes it's way up to NJ, this would be a great opportunity to have a spare bank of "unused or seldom used" freq's (State/County/Local/Federal/Utility/etc.) in the scanner to check and see if they get used or not. Cause we all know that when the $*!t hits the fan, alternate freq's do get used, and would be great finds... :)

Tomorrow i'll have some time to program a cpl banks for Local OEM/ Rescue/ Alt Freqs and want to double check all my weather alerts. I will leave one radio on Alert/NOAA from Sat Am tii Mon as I usually listen to NWS daily anyway. between Tomorrow and Sat Am i have a list of things to check and put away before i can listen fulltime. Costco today was crowded Gas line was packed and people were buying alot of soda/water/juice, glad I went today and not waited

Check the weather.com and/or the National Hurricane Center webpages for Irene. The storm tracks I've seen take it into NJ/NYC/LI by mid-afternoon Sunday. It's subject to change, of course. I've got family in the SE PA/S NJ, and I've been watching it since Florida and Georgia were in her sights, as I have family there as well.

This could be worse then Floyd and has been compared to the Hurricane of 1944.

I'm fairly far inland, but have many business concerns along the shore, so I'll be listening all day.

I remember hurricane Floyd was no joke here in NJ. I guess the stores will be running out of bread and milk this weekend.....

Does anyone know what frequency Monmouth County OEM uses?

Years ago, they use to use 153.905 repeater. But now, they might have a PL on that UHF multi-use channel (13A, 13B, etc) Maybe also keep an eye on CH 8 153.755

The last time we had a threat of an Hurricane I remember going to AC with the ambulance to help evac the hospital and other homes. I am sure this will be going again in the next day.
