Searched the forums, but couldn't find anything related to this problem. I just uploaded frequencies to my Pro 2055 with Win97 and now I noticed I have absolutely no squelch at all. The squelch was working fine until I uploaded the frequencies.

The scanner is scanning and receiving normally but there is no squelch tail at the end of a transmission and I can turn the squelch completely counter clockwise and it still scans and there is no squelch noise.

Any ideas?

If you are scanning trunked systems then the squelch doesn't work. It only effects conventional non-PL frequencies.

I'm scanning a combination of conventional, conventional with PL enabled, EDACS and Motorola...there is no squelch function period. If I turn the squelch all the way up or down it doesn't affect the scanner at all. It's receiving and scanning normally and the squelch knob is non-functional.

The squelch has to be working in some context or the minute the scanner hits a conventional frequency it would lock onto that frequency.
On the Pro-97/2055 if the PL decode in engaged while in scan mode the squelch will seemingly not be working the radio remains scanning even with the squelch wide open. In manual mode if you open the squelch on a frequency that has PL decode on the activity indicator will come on until the squelch is closed.
Best way to test is manually go to a channel with nothing programmed in, open the squelch and see if you get the "open squelch" sound.

In this mode the squelch should work. The channel could be set to AM, FM or CT/DC in search mode.

conventional with PL enabled
In this mode the squelch has no effect on the audio. When the squelch is fully enabled, you will NOT see the "lightning bolt" next to "lo+" or "lo-" on the 2nd line of the display of a PRO-97/2055. As you turn the squelch counter clockwise, you will see the lightning bolt turn on, but the audio remains squelched. For fastest scanning you'll typically want to set the squelch where the lightning bolt is off (and no transmission on the channel).

EDACS and Motorola
Squelch has no affect. That is because the scanner is "listening" to the control channel and has the audio muted. When a voice communication is detected, it switches to the appropriate channel and unmutes the audio.

There is a well known problem with squelch pots in some RS scanners becoming defective. Typically when it happens you will hear nothing; no trunked, no conventional, nothing.

Well, I now know that I didn't mess something up on my scanner thanks to all of you that replied. I've been a scanner owner since the early 70's, but this is my first experience with a trunking scanner and PL codes and I wasn't aware of their effect on the squelch.

The squelch does function normally on an empty channel.

Thanks for all the help.
