• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,

We are currently installing laptops and Pentax PJ3 printers for a customer who already has M/A COM M7100 VHF (remote-head) radios installed. The radios, while P25 capable, are being run currently in a converntional analog mode.

It has been reported that some of these radios are receiving noise on certain, non-PL channels when the printer is on. The radio tech has stated that when the antenna is un-screwed from the base or the printer is turned off, the noise goes away. This is a remote customer who we won't be back to until the second week of August, so it will be a couple weeks until we can get a first-hand look.

As for the printer (and laptop dock), the customer wanted us to install our wiring to their pre-installed switches (already wired) rather than our standard of running a dedicated line to the battery. The reason I mention this is that from just glancing at their wiring on the last trip, it's possible that between the battery and the switch, the circuit may pass through numerous connectors, terminal strips and relays (all possible points for RFI pickup) before it even gets to the switch.

To make a long story short:
  • The Pentax PJ series has a long history of trouble-free (non-RFI) operation. However, I have contacted Pentax and am awaiting an answer
  • The only users (2 or 3) reporting this issue are using M7100s. The rest (17 or 18) of the users have Motorola Spectras.
  • All the radios use the same non-PL channels, so I should be able to rule that out (and PL use to cover RFI is only a band-aid anyway).
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike
