Hey guys,

So I have a couple questions about Control Codes and Frequencies for North San Diego. When I look at the database it shows all the Frequencies and CC for north area, should I just be plugging in all of those Frequencies that are listed for North Zone when I'm programming for Fire, PD, and EMS for all of north county and oceanside, escondido, and such? As in, do all the branches use the exact same frequencies through all of this area? And then my final part of my questions are, is there any spot in win500 that I can just plug in the CC's and let the scanner (pro-106) worry about the frequencies? Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

Just put the CCs (red and blue) in system frequencies, set the band plan to splinter and it should work fine.

Ok that helps a little with my questions, but i'm also trying to better understand how the frequencies/cc's work. Do the police, fire, and ems for an area (ie north county along 78) all use the same frequencies and cc's? I already knew san diego has to have splinter turned on for it to work. I'm just trying to better understand how the frequencies and cc's work since rr.com's database just lists them all in one area and doesnt say which ones are for what branch of RCS. So do all the branches use the same frequencies and CC's? thanks for the info again.

Everyone from the plumbers in Oceanside to the detectives in Escondido use the same frequencies. This link has a good explanation of how this works.
Trunking Basics - The RadioReference Wiki

You ever have one of those moments when suddenly everything clicks and you are like "OH NOW I GET IT...god i feel dumb", yea well if there was a light over my head then my g/f would be *****ing about how bright it is in here. Anywho, thank you for clearifying that for me and for offering the link that helped explain it more. However, it did bring up one new question about it about multi-cast (i think is the term). In win500 should i be turning on the multi-site setting, or is that not something we worry about? Thanks again for all the info, i've taught myself alot about this stuff but missed some basics some where.

You can use multisite but it is not required. The zones have different sites but since they simulcast we don't have to put all of the sites into the configuration. Simulcast means all of the sites in the zone are are transmitting the same thing at the same time.

You can put the CCs from multiple zones in one TSYS, turn on multi site in roam mode, set the thresholds, and then you can "roam" from one zone to another zone automatically.

You can also roam manually by putting in 2 TSYSs(1 with the CCs for N zone and 1 with the CCs for S zone), duplicating theTGs, in another scanlist, and turn the zones on and off by selecting different scanlists manually. Each method requires slightly different tricks.

Got all that? There is one more trick. You can turn on multisite in stat mode with the Check all CCs option, build 1 TSYS with the CCs from both zones. This is really only useful if you can hear multiple zones from one location.

Or you could build 2 different V-scanners wit the N zone in one V-scanner and the S zone in another V-scanner. You should probably start out with this approach. One of the things that can trip you up is knowing which TGs are on which zone.

Since you have Win500 I can give you some files to get you started. If you want some files shoot me a PM with an email address and let me know what you want.

Ok, so just to make sure I understand correctly. We don't need to worry about multi-site if all the scanner is going to be doing is hanging out in vista (and along the 78) since they are already simulcast across the whole North Zone.

You are correct.
