Well... It was nice meeting at least 4 of the Northern Scanner contingent even though my `sandbagging' kinda made me more than just a tad bit late getting up to Johnson's Corner. I *did* stick around for around another hour and a half after you guys left, actually did end up ordering something to eat for both myself and Ian, before finally packing it in a calling it quits and heading back home. (While I wasn't as gauche as having my two scanners squawking away at full volume I did have both of them sitting out in the open enough that I had several of the staff come over and ask what they were. One of the `cleaners' / `bus-people', after I had explained what they were, said that her `boyfriend' had mentioned that he was interested in possibly getting one and she was considering getting him one for his birthday but didn't know what they actually were or where she could get one. I dug out some note paper and wrote down a few places and magazines where she could find dealers for her and gave her one of my `business' cards if she had any more questions. [Turned out that both her and her boyfriend were both graduates of the same high school as SWMBO and they both had family still there and, I wasn't able to clearly figure out just who's younger sybiling it was, apparently knew Ruth, my daughter, and would probably be asking her to ask me any questions they might have! One of those `rural' type of things? {GRIN!}])

Shortly after getting back home Ian made a passing mention that apparently a couple other scannists had shown up, asked about the `get together', apparently didn't notice me sitting back in the corner at the big round booth and retired off to another table someplace else. As previously mention I *did* have both my 96 & 97, I thought, prominently displayed and stayed at that `booth' for at least another hour to hour and a half before packing things in. I guess that is part-n-parcel of being a little old man that can be easily looked right over because I am small? Unfortunately it *could* also be taken another way though even as many feathers I may have ruffled over the years I'd like to believe differently. I'd hoped that after all the meetings way down south that I really just cannot bring myself to drive to because I really do not like driving all the way through the metro mess I would have gotten to meet a few more fellow scannists. At least I *did* manage to finally meet 4 other Northern scannists and whilst I didn't get all that much time to talk to you all it was really nice to be able to somewhat put faces to `names' here. Thanks, guys!

As usual, just an `Olde Fart's' 2¢ worth. {GRIN!}

Half pint you rock! I am so sorry I could not stay longer, I am sure I could of learned a ton from you, in addition to the trick you showed me about how to space out my towers. That is too bad some people could not find us, I had a feeling we should have gone up to the hostess and told her/them where we all sat. We sat back in the corner, but there was scanners on the table so if they would of looked around some..but live and learn right? Jim we where hopping you might show up, we wanted to have you fitted for a Leather Vest that we saw :lol:.

Oh and BTW we also decided on these things:
~ We want a picture of Jim's "bat cave and roof"
~ **** Never mind!
~ The lawn dart antenna is just PVC pipe and metal
~ **** Never mind!
~ Snow plows are fun to listen to as well

What am I missing guys?

KOA Traffic

She sure sounds live to me every morning and evening drive time, and is not hard to look at or listen too either.

Yes it's the KUSA chopper but she also reports live for KOA.

Meet Amelia
Airborne traffic reporter Amelia Earhart got her start right here on NewsRadio 850 KOA! Amelia worked as a part-time traffic reporter for KOA while attending school at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Driving the 98-mile round trip commute between school and work fueled Amelia's desire to report the traffic in a way that is both helpful and efficient for drivers. Nearly three years later, she reports from the sky, the very place where she feels the most comfortable.

Outside of work, Amelia is pursuing her private pilot's license and hopes to one day retrace the flights of her influential namesake. She enjoys horseback riding, painting, yoga and inventing delicious new concoctions in her kitchen.

Are you referring to her reports on the KUSA 450.xxx or KOA 161.xxx or on 850 itself?

Also do you listen to Metro Traffic on 450.xxx they have a plane up instead of a helicopter.

OK... While I *did* enter quite late into the conversation I *might* be able to somewhat clear something up? What this may revolve around is the apparent reception of various agencies on CCs other than those that some here have always been saying are their `main affiliated' CCs? (Just taking a `stab' at what *might* be?) While I don't remember exactly which agencies that were part of the main part of the discussion an example might be: Lessay I am sitting here at home and I am listening to a conversation on `Scanner A' between a couple officers who are definitely in Greeley *on the Mead site* and I am *not* hearing them on any of the `Greeley' sites even though I've got both `Greeley' sites programed, functioning, and clearly `hearable' w/ a high `decode %' in `Scanner B'. On top of that all scanners in question are the same brand and model *and* on the same antenna. According to `theory' Greeley units *should* be `affiliated' with the Greeley sites the majority of the time though we all know that there are many things that say, "The heck with `theory' and `the wonks' I'm going to do it this way instead." (Remember... "To err is human, to *really* cockup things takes a computer!") Now what adds to the `question' is that, lessay also, this is not just one of those occasional happenings but seems to occur with extreme regularity *and* not just with just these particular officers. (Remember! This is *only* an `example' and most likely not what started the original conversation before I showed up! From what I gathered there were several other agencies and CCs that had been subjects here. [Maybe one of you guys could PM me to help fill me in on what started the whole hoohaa? Then *maybe* then it could come back here and `The Enlightenment' could possibly continue if necessary? {WAN GRIN!}])

Oh, well... The preceding was probably clear as mud.

And also probably only just an `Olde Fart's' 2¢ worth. {VB GRIN!}

Since nobody wants to clarifiy this statement, for the record, "~ Tower Affiliation is a myth" Radios do affilate with towers.

Hey Halfpint, what firmware version are you running on your 96?

1.4 for all my 3 96s and 4 2096s along with my daughter's 96 and 2096. 1.3 was a disaster for *me* though, if'n I disremembers prezactly I think, there are some here who would claim the same for 1.4. {WAN GRIN!} It all depends upon each individual's particular situation(s) ETC.. The 2 96s that I'd mentioned up at `JC's' as having basically, finally, `rolled over and died' on me are most likely `RoHS' related problems as both of them are from the very first batch that was made around the time that they started the `RoHS' BS and they exhibit(ed) the `classic' `RoHS' "whisker" symptoms. And, as also mentioned in passing, regards that `little?' problem I'm considering my `options' with them and depending how certain things go I'll either get them repaired/replaced *or* they just might become a pair of $500 `clay pidgeons' or `electronic popcans' as I don't see saddling someone else with them and all their troubles no matter how much someone might try and wheedle them from me. IE: *If* I *have* to I *will* put them out of their, and my, misery as quickly and `humanely?' as possible. (10ga, .308, or .50BMG?) {EVIL GRIN!} If it comes down to the latter I *will* `salvage' some assorted `parts' and `bits-n-pieces' and provide them both with blindfolds before administering the `judgement' and `coupé de gracé?'. I am *not* entirely `heartless'. {CHORTLE!} Either way I definitely intend to pick up at least 1 PSR-500 and 1 PSR-600 and most likely will end up matching my `stock' of 96s and 2096s as I am able to afford to do so.

Its interesting that you use 96's and 2096's in the area you're in or at least don't have something that covers 700Mhz being that the area you and I live in or around is partly 700, but mostly 800.

Wow you have a ton of scanners HalfPint! Get you and Jim in the same room, we'll have more radio power then NORAD! I tried upgrading to 1.4 again last night with the hopes that your trick would make it better. At leased to me it did not so I went back to 1.2.

I'll readily admit that I am a GRE `fan' and I've been sitting back waiting for their next offering after the RS PRO-96-2096 scanners. Now, having gotten that said, I am somewhat `sangbagging' on buying the GRE PSR-500 -600 series scanners until it appears that they are a tad bit more `refined'. If things go as I am hoping I am expecting that shortly after `Taxgivings Day' I'll be picking up both a PSR-500 and PSR-600 as `seeds' for `growth' of my `scanner farm'. So far I haven't been terribly `inconvienced' by my current lack of 700MHz coverage and in fact my actual `thrust' is to be able to handle the up and coming WYOLink system because we are intending on moving back up there as soon as possible.
