Good Afternoon-
I have a Bearcat BC60XLT-1. I love listening to the City of Friendswood (TX) police, fire, etc. But a few weeks ago they changed somethiing......NOW I CAN"T HEAR ANYTHING!!!

I don't know if they just changed frequencies (I tried all that are listed on this website), or if my scanner is outdated, or BOTH.....

AND, if I need a new scanner, what should I look for???

Please help--- If anyone could offer some assistance, I would greatly appreciate it (Friday nights are now boring).

Thank you

Fix for Not scanning

They are on the Harris County STARNET system....the frequencies are in the RR data base, I live in League City and can get them on the League City tower, also on some of the other towers in the area....go to the database for Houston and you will find what you need under STARNET.....freq's and talkgroup ID's

I promise they are there

They are on STARNET, I promise. I listen to them everyday, maybe someone who is familiar with your scanner can help with the programming....I use a PRO96.....Good Luck

I have tried all of those on both of my scanners, and they still don't work
You need a trunk-tracking scanner to listen to STARNET. Just entering the frequencies from the nearest tower won't help much. The BC60XLT-1 is not a trunk tracker. You say you entered the frequencies on both of your scanners? What model is the other one? Is it a trunking scanner? If it's not, there are a number of scanners that will work.

The BC60XLT covers VHF and UHF - up to 512 Mhz. It is fine for conventional but you won't be able to scan by talkgroups on a trunked system. You'll lose conversations as they jump around and you won't be able to lockout groups you don't want to hear.

The STARNet system is a trunked system operating in the 800 mhz band. Sorry, but to listen to Friendswood you'll need to get a new radio. The good news is that this type of radio is relatively cheap (under $200). If you're not familiar with trunking ... you'll want to spend a little time in the Wiki ... some good info there.

Good luck.
