Could someone shed some light on two questions:

1. what were the multiple references to "Homeland Security" all weekend on CW-1 about?

2. why was there a motorcade back to O'Hare yesterday afternoon; did weather prevent a return helo ride from Soldier Field?

1.Homeland security checks are the transit units checking certain at risk posts. The have the CW1 dispatcher pull a # to verify the were there and timestamp it.

Homeland security checks have been going on for a long time. You'll hear them on Zones too. It's all about terrorism high-risk areas and an event number is stamped for the officer's activity logs.

Talking about Homeland Security in a slightly different vein...

I was at the Cubs game last week and saw a half dozen or so DHS officers in tan BDU's working the Addison "L" station and a couple locations between there and the front of Wrigley. I haven't seen these guys out there before, but I haven't been to a game for a while.

I couldn't see the radios they were carrying, but I assume they operate either on CPD's UHF or VHF federal channels.

They were on City-Wide 6 and were using the MSF radio signatures with a different letter designation. Yes it was a Homeland Security issue they were "monitoring".
