An individual put this data into our wiki...

NSW State Emergency Services (NSW) - The RadioReference Wiki

Is this data an official listing of some kind, or has it been validated? If either is true, with a little cleanup, this data should be absorbed into our database.

However, there are a couple of questions that need some clarification;

a. Some of the entries (like the TAC items) read like talkgroups?

b. The frequencies are entered in the style that suggests they are conventional in nature; however, if item a is correct, then what is the CTCSS listing? That is more likely to be a connect tone for a trunk system

73 and thanks...Mike

Mike,

The frequencies and CTCSS tones are correct, they are conventional stand alone repeaters.

The TalkGroups are part of the NSW Government Radio Network or GRN for short. This is currently a Motorola Smartzone system based on 400 MHz. The list will make sense to any New South Welshman, but could be confusing for visitors.

I see; thanks. Is there somewhere this GRN network is defined? It's a little confusing, mixing the talkgroups in with the conventional repeater listings. To anyone looking at the article, they would think that the 400 mhz freqs are really trunked and that's not the case.

That list is just how they have decided to set up their radios.

The NSWGRN is covered here

The NSWGRN is supposed to be migrating to a real APCO25 network in about two months time, with all new TalkGroups.

Mike,

As COMINT states the practise of mixing conventional and trunking is common. My department does it, as does many others. We mainly use XTS5000 and XTS2500 portables, with a small number of XTS3000 still in service, until the P25 migration is complete, then they are gone. Mobiles are XTL5000 and XTL2500. I think most of the MCS2000 have disappeared or should do soon.

The P25 system as far as my department is concerned we will use P25 talkgroups interlaced with conventional (analogue) frequencies as well as P25 conventional frequencies. It does not present a problem as such, people just switch 'channels" as required.

I just downloaded the GRN for preparation for my Sept/Oct trip (and Comint, if you have any data on the P25 replacement I'd love to get it!)...

The lion's share of the data posted in the wiki is in the database already, at least as far as the trunked talkgroups go. There's some inconsistencies in the Hunter area and a few extra TGs in each that the other doesn't have, but the biggest part of the work is already done.

IMO the "Display" tags in the wiki data is leaps & bounds better than the DB. ;)
