NYPD Radio Changes

to allow for the future conversion of nypd transit from VHF to UHF, the following boro channels will be off the air as of 0001 1/22/07: PBMS, PBBN, and PBQN.

the following boro channels are being converted to full Boro Wide channels: PBMS, PBBS, and PBQS.

PBBX and PBSI channels will remain unaffected by this change.

also on 1/22/07 @ 0001 hours the following channels will be off the air and reused as follows:

PBMS frequency will be taken of of the air and converted to the new transit manhattan channel.
PBBN frequency will be taken of of the air and converted to the new transit brooklyn channel.
PBQN frequency will be taken of of the air and converted to the new transit queens channel.
the previous PBSI channel has been re-licensed and relocated for use as the transit bronx channel.

there will be no more queens south or queens north it will be PB QNS

there will be no more brooklyn north or brooklyn south it will be PB BKN

and the bronx is getting the old PBSI channel

good step transit needs to move to UHF for inter departmental "inter op" now i know why they spent all of that money on the UHF underground BDA's and Cable in the UHF band! NYPD surface units will be able to switch to the transit channels and talk to the transit units above ground and underground.

What is the new freq for the Bronx channel??

i do not have the pbsi one, can you pass it on..

also the old vhf radios who will get them..the train operators???

or they are going uhf as well soon??

no i believe transit authority operations are staying on VHF.

PBSI has 2 frequencies that split it up into PBSI-N (482.8625) and PBSI-S (482.5625). Are you trying to say that one of these frequencies will be reassigned to the Bronx?

PB Manhattan South will become Transit PD Manhattan (471.0875)
PB Staten Island South will become the Transit PD Bronx (482.5625)
PB Queens North will become Transit PD Queens (470.9125)
PB Brooklyn North will become Transit PD Brooklyn (470.9625)

PB Manhattan North will become PB-MAN (471.0625)
PB Brooklyn South will become PB-BKN (470.9875)
PB Queens South will become PB-QNS (470.9375)
PB Staten Island North will become PBSI (482.8625)
PB Bronx will stay PBBX (471.0375)

Reporting at 0120hrs Monday January 22, 2007; still hearing NYPD Transit PD on the VHF system. The new UHF system has been quiet so far. Although I am hearing some traffic on the old PBBN (470.9625) frequency, can't tell if its actual NYPD or if its NYPD Transit.

transit is not switching over right away, the message was put out to all commands to let them know about the changes. probally be months before all of the transit radio's are changed from VHF to UHF. the teletype came out friday night into saturday so it will be a little before the transition takes place.

As ff026 said, nothing will happen overnight. You need to allow time to reprogram radios, replacing tunnel repeaters, field tests. Give or take 1/2 year or longer

Will the Bron and upper Manhattan share the same channel on uhf like the the vhf channel 160.500

same question for the queens channel it shares brooklyn north dist 33, will they share the same channel on uhf like the 160.965.

or will it be just one boro on a channel and no splits like the above metioned.

i do not know if they are going to split like they did with the VHF system, only time will tell. im sure by the summer transit will transition to the UHF system.

Yeah they said on channel 7, today, they spent 140 million, and the system has too much interference, and it's gonna cost another 210 million or something like that to repair it.
