Hello to all! I frequently listen to NYPD SOD which covers ESU. I sometimes hear central mentioning to a unit something about "division". Does anyone know what this refers to?

Also, does anyone know what a landline request is? I sometimes hear that over SOD radio.

Don't know about SOD but, with most agencies, it is either a request for the unit to contact a particular party by phone or a request from the unit to be contacted by phone.

Alright, makes sense. Thanks!

It's a request for that unit to call their dispatch. We still use the term even though it's 99% cell calls nowadays. It comes from the old days. You'd pull over to find a land line or a pay phone.

When an “SOD” unit puts over “a landline request” it means someone called the esu base of that esu unit and asked for help. They do it via landline so it is discrete. Can be as simple as a sector locked their keys in the car or dropped them in a sewer. A landline request can be anything.

Your question RE landline is a good one and logical for someone new to monitoring SOD. ff206's explanation is exactly right.

ecps92 thinks he knows everything and can't allow himself to accept new hobbyists to the message boards. He has been arrogant and rude for years on here. Keep asking questions about our great hobby and ignore the troll. Enjoy listening to SOD while you still can. Some of the best scanning anywhere.

he is not the only one who is always arrogant and rude for years on here. The Techs hate the hobbyists.

Thank you for validating me and my question. I appreciate it.
It's such a shame that there are people like ecps92 out there in the world being rude and arrogant to well-meaning people. He's clearly a very miserable person which is why I initially ignored him. You can never get anywhere talking to or even arguing with these people. So sad...

On a different note- I'm assuming that NYPD SOD is going to go digital soon (like the rest of their feeds). Do you have a timeline as to when?
I'm not looking forward at all! :-(

Hello to all! Here's another question(s):
In NYPD ESU there are always multiple units (Adam 1, Adam 2 etc.) on the air. Does anyone know if they cover specific precincts? For example- Adam 1 covers the 1st, 5th, and 6th precincts and Adam 2 will cover the 7th, 9th, and 10th precincts.
If they do, will the same units always cover the same precincts? Thanks!

If I understand correctly, the ESS units are what they refer to as Truck 1, Truck 2 etc. Does the above apply to the regular "smaller" units (Adam 1, Adam 2 etc) as well?

Yes. The truck is usually the supervisor and the REP’s handle the jobs unless the truck must respond. Generally the REP’s will handle the jobs because the truck is the supervisor and NYPD mindset is you never let the supervisor answer jobs. The truck must respond to certain jobs because it is the supervisor but for the run of the mill jobs it’s usually the Adam or Boy or if there is enough men the Charlie car will handle.

So if ESS #1 is always assigned to Lower Manhattan that would include Truck 1 as well as REP 1 (Adam 1, Boy 1 etc.)?
