I know that several systems in Orange County are digital or even encrypted, but what is there to listen to thats analog in the OC? is it worth it to buy the BCT15? the digital version is just too rich for my blood... I looking most to monitor in times of emergencies for crucial information, but am interested in day-to-day use as well.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated

PD's and the Sheriff's are mostly encrypted with a few exceptions like
the Red Talkgroup where pursuits and crime broadcasts can be heard.
The CHP is on low band 39 MHz repeaters. State Park Rangers are on 800
MHz repeaters along the coastline. Fish and Game is on 151.43. UCI
and all other College PD's are in the clear on various frqs, CSU
Fullerton is encrypted. DOJ, state and federal, can be heard daily
with surveillances in Or. Co. on VHF, UHF, and 866-868 MHz frqs. John
Wayne Airport deputies and SSO's can be heard on P25 talkgroups on the Or. Co. South TRS.
County Park Rangers are on the Or. Co. Countywide TRS. PD air units
use 123.025, 123.45, 119.90, and 126.80 while over the county. Sigalerts are on 151.085 simulcast with TG 40480 on the CW TRS.

A good source for info is at Radio Reference at:

I don't think too many people know about this TG, (I have not seen anyone make mention of it as far as law enforcement is concerened) It's labeled as Silver(and the detectives who use it also refer to it as such),TG 38432,P-25. Usually pops up on the north cell, and I usually hear them daily, mostly setting up a surveillance of some kind. A couple of months ago I heard a pretty good foot chase on this TG, only lasted a few minutes before whoever was in charge told all units to switch to green-1. So you never know... enjoy!

That is actually Anaheim "Silver-2". Anaheim PD seems to like it a lot, but it makes me wonder if they realize its not encrypted.

The "Silver" channels are the designated local government talkgroups for all the cities and the county. Each city has at least one (Silver-1), but the county and cities like Anaheim have many. The designations all sound similar but each one is a different talkgroup.

That's what I'm wondering, since OC has a ton of encrypted TG's specifically for surveillances and such. I counted at least 8 available to APD........
