Ok. I need to get this straight. Right now I can only scan O'Fallon EMS and Fire because they both use analog. The police, however, are on Starcom21. This is where it gets confusing for me. Please tell me if I am correct about the info I am about to post. All info came from the Starcom21 page.

So...If I needed to listen to the O'Fallon PD, I need to know the following

1) Starcom21 is the system name.
2) Project 25 System Type
3) APCO-25 Voice
4) [St. Clair County Simulcast control frequencies]
5) [O'Fallon TG ID's]

The thing that is confusing to me is the Simulcast part of it. I guess the radio tower and Seven Hills North of the police department is part of the Simulcast. Please give me the correct info if I am incorrect.

Thanks,
Jacob

Scanned O'Fallon 3 years ago using above data. Appears additional talkgroups have been added.

Hope your scanner is P25 capable.

Thanks. I have been confused about the simulcast part of it. And yes, now I'm going to have to get a P25 capable scanner such as the Uniden BCD396XT. I wonder what happened to the BCD396T. To me, the 396T looks a lot cooler than the 396XT.

The 396T was replaced by the XT. The XT does everything the T did plus adds memory capacity, GPS capability, better P25 decoding and a bunch of other stuff. It looks a little different too...

As for the simulcast part just enter the frequencies in once as a Site (359), no need to enter them in multiple times. Basically the way a Simulcast system like this works is that there are multiple towers with the same freqs scattered around the county to allow better coverage.

The O Fallon police talk group id numbers are not correct as far as I have tried. I have a PRO 96 and a PRO 197 in my truck and I never hear the police. I opened my scanner bank tonight and I am trying to identify which talkgroup id they use. The St Clair page says their units are Ocean then corresponding unit number. I have heard it a few times I have to get the talk group ID displayed. I will keep this updated when I figure it out.

Don't be surprised if you can't understand the voice transmission on St Clair county's simulcast system. Our scanners have a difficult time decoding the multiple transmissions that arrive at slightly different times. I have a couple of digital scanners and I've given up trying to monitor anything on St Clair's system. It seems some people have better luck than others due to being in a good spot or using a yagi antenna. Like everyone else, I was disappointed when the O'Fallon police turned off their UHF system.
