SC230 UASD Software Now Available (Prerelease)

Uniden today released the first Prerelease version of the SC230 Uniden Advanced Scanner Director. This software allows the complete programming and control of the Uniden SC230 NASCAR Racing Scanner, and, when used with an appropriate transceiver, also enables On-Air Cloning for wireless scanner updates.

In order to support the upcoming races, this software is being released with a few known "rough edges." Most notably, the Help file still references the SC230's sister product, the BC246T. We expect to complete the help file and be ready to release a final version of the software within a few weeks, but don't want our customersto be without PC software for the races.

The software can be downloaded from: Download Page.

A key to unlock the full functionality of the software is available from Uniden's on-line store at: Uniden Store

The unregistered version allows access to most features, but has the following limits which are removed with the purchase of a key:

1) Systems transferred to the scanner must be named "Conventional" or "Racing." Others will be ignored.
2) Option to send without erasing current scanner memory is not available.
3) Option to send a single system is not available.
4) Option to update scanner configuration only is not available.

Hi,

I just received the SC230 scanner and while trying to learn how to use it, I deleted the officials 1 channel from the nascar nextel cup conventional system. Does anyone know if this scanner can be reset to factory defaults or can someone tell me how to add this channel back along with the frequency? Also, can someone tell me an easy way to go to the track and scan the drivers while being able to switch to the radio broadcast? I've read through the entire booklet and I must admit, its all pretty much greek to me.

Thank you

Rob

Two recent posts at SC230 Yahoo Group will help you with using it at the track.

The original load for the scanner (in UASD format) is in the files section of that same group.

Thanks, I checked out the group and tried the original load file, now my scanner is blank. I'm not a stupid person but this thing is rediculous, I'm beginning to think Uniden doesn't want people to like this thing.

BuTel releases free software for Uniden SC230

BuTel software has released a free software utility for the Uniden SC230: Clone230.

This free software is used to create/restore backups using a PC connection. Clone files can be exchanged with other users over the internet. Raceshops can use clone230 to preprogram the SC230 for their customers.

The software includes the 'out of the box' clone file so the original frequencies can be restored.

ARC230 programming software for the Sc230 will be available soon in US (race)shops and is based on the very popular ARC246 software.

I thought that there was going to be an update to fix it so you can have more than 1 freq unlocked per driver.

SC230 MANUAL (not PC) programming questions

1. How does the Quick Car Select key function? I could set the quick key for a car and the number appears to the right of GRP on the display, however the scan continues when I hit the key. I would think it would set to the car's frequency like hitting HOLD when the scan found the car's frequency.

2. Editing a car's channel. I can change the frequency using EDIT FREQUENCY, press the scroll control or E, it displays Processing...Wait Please, however the original frequency then displays. Editing the original frequency again shows the frequency I changed it to. It's like the new frequency is not replacing the old. I got around this by deleting the channel and entering a new channel.

1. To quickly select a car, press CAR, enter the car number, then press E, E.

2. I'll have to see if I can find time to play with this. What you describe should work, though.

Uniden released two important updates to the SC230 today.

==================== SC230 Firmware Update =================================

First, for the SC230 we have released a firmware update that reflects some requests we have had from our users. This update is located on the Uniden website at:

<http://www.uniden.com/rn_productsupport_downloads.cfm?product=SC230>

This firmware update makes the following changes to the SC230's operation:

1) ALLOW MULTIPLE UNLOCKED FREQUENCIES PER CAR

This change removes the "forced lock" of unselected frequencies. While scanning, the scanner will check every unlocked frequency for every car.

2) IMPROVING QUICK CAR SELECTION

The operation CAR, ##, CAR takes the user to the first unlocked frequency for the indicated car. The current operation of CAR, ##, E still allows the user to adjust settings for a particular frequency or add new frequencies.

This change makes it easier to select a specific car without entering the programming mode.

3) SIMPLIFYING CAR PROGRAMMING

Car Number, Driver Name, Frequency, and CTCSS/DCS are top-level settings. All other settings are now in an "ADVANCED SETTINGS" selection so that the user can easily skip past all the settings that are normally kept at default.

Menu prompt changes to:

New Frequency
Enter Frequency
Set CTCSS/DCS
Advanced Options
(below shown only if user selects "E/Yes" otherwise are left at default and skipped)
Set Modulation
Set Attenuator
Set Priority
Set Alert
Another Freq for this driver?

4) IMPROVING THE DISPLAY OF THE CURRENT CAR

a) When the scanner stops on an active car frequency during a race, change the current "oscillating" display to be:

### DRIVER NAME
####.####

Example:

51 Tony Raines
467.8875

b) During SCAN HOLD on a car, make the display:

### DRIVER NAME
####.#### HOLD

Example:

72 K.Shlmerdine
467.8250 HOLD

So, in a) and b) conditions, the race name no longer alternates on the top line of the display.

==================== SC230 UASD Final Release =================================
The final released PC software is now available for download. Users who have previously downloaded the software and purchased a key need only install this version over their old version. The final release includes:

1) User interface improvements.
2) Complete Help file (including instructions for On-Air Cloning).

The software can be downloaded from <http://www.uniden.com/rn_productsupport_downloads.cfm?product=SC230>.

i posted in the scanner forum, but might get a better response here as it's a race scanner...

anyone heard anything about NASCAR going digital, or even worse, digital with their iDen technology which is unscannable? two schools of thought...one that they wouldn't want to upset the existing fan base since scanning is such a huge part of the race experience. but on the other hand, if they see a chance to make $....which would make the sc230, which is so hot right now, almost obsolete as it's designed for racing. of course, i guess there's still the other leagues.....

anyone have thoughts? i am getting ready to buy the sc230, but HATE to do it if it's going to be obsolete in a few years. this seems to be the perfect race scanner for my personal situation.

According to my contacts with NASCAR, there are no plans to move away from their current radio systems. NEXTEL is a licensing deal, only. Not a technology deal.
