I need assistance.

Normally, I have no trouble reading and figuring things out. However, this scanner I just bought has me going insane! It is a pro-97, my first one and I thought it would be easy to turn it on and have some chat. I actually started last night but bought the desktop non trunking system. Now I have the 97 and am hoping anyone can help me get rolling.

I would like to hear Sacramento and more specifically Citrus Heights.

Lucky for you there are several Sacramento scanner enthusiasts.

For starters, you'll need to program this system into your scanner.

800Mhz Type II

http://radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=4499

Under " System Frequencies " you MUST program " site 002 " frequencies into your scanner.

002 Countywide System

866.11250 866.13750 866.35000 866.37500 866.43750 866.63750 866.75000 866.81250 866.83750 867.10000 867.16250 867.35000 867.41250 867.43750 867.68750 867.83750 867.93750 868.13750 868.23750 868.28750 868.43750 868.53750* 868.73750* 868.93750* 868.96250*

After you do that, you will need to program the " Talk Group ID" numbers into your scanner.

If you want to hear EVERYTHING on the "Sacramento Regional Radio Communications System", you will need to program site 001 and site 002 frequencies into your scanner.

If you are savvy on the computer, and willing to program your scanner via computer connection, there are several people on this forum who are willing to share their files for you.

Good luck.

You will need the cable for computer programming, but in a short time you can get the bare bones prorammed into your scanner and start monitoring.

Also, to give you some motivation - here's a link to some online Sacramento scanner traffic, I'll add Citrus Heights, Elk Grove and Folsom PD to the mix for tonight. Normally it's just Sac Sheriff.

Welcome to RR

Hello Haru, welcome to RR.

One of the things I monitor HEAVILY is the Sacramento TRS. There is always something going on in Citrus Heights. I've usually got a PRO-95 going exclusively listening to the TRS, and a PRO-97 listening to everything else. I use outside antennas (whether mobile or base) and listen to a very wide area when radio traffic is light.

I'm not sure if you are only interested in Citrus Heights, or just the Sacramento TRS; but if you want to hear more, let just let us all know. There is still quite a bit of stuff on VHF hi (and the CHP on VHF low) in addition to a couple of key 800 MHz frequencies.

Lastly; I figured out everything on "paper" (or on the computer in a plain text file) as to how I wanted to program my first PRO-97, then programmed it by hand. The 1100 channels took me over a week to manually key in (I wasn't doing it 24/7 - lol). If you just want a few things programmed, you can do it on the fly. But once you're up to speed on this stuff, you'll want things organized .. of which the best way is to use WIN97.

Good luck

I did the DL and will pick up the cable later today. Im still confused but it should click soon. i will give it a shot and see where I end up, I think it is more about understanding what/why at this moment.

Again, thanks for the info.

SSD feed for www.scansacramento.com is back on.

The last couple days reception has been HORRIBLE for me - it doesn't help that I'm a bit over 30+ miles away from the closest transmitter in a valley.

I just bought an 800MHz Yagi, if it arrives in time I'll hook that up this weekend and see how it performs.

ok.....

I have the cable and the software, specifically I am looking for
800Mhz Type II

Under " System Frequencies "

There are multiple tabs and apparently I still do not get it. Is there something in the program that has " System Frequencies " specifiacally or am I just not up to speed on the lingo? Any help is appreciated, thanks for your time!
