• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

You probably have the old postcard type permit. As far as I know the FCC did not keep records of those. All they did was stamp the issue date and FCC seal on it and send it back to you. If you needed it replaced you just had to apply for another one.

I had a postcard type that was issued in 1987 and sometime between then and 1999 they started laser printing them on the same type form as the GROL and ham licenses. I had to replace mine in 1999 and they told me they don't issue replacements and that I just had to apply for another one.

Sometime around 2001 or so they started putting newly issued Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permits in the ULS database and now they are handled like other licenses. If you need a replacement you can request a duplicate online, the same as the other licenses. I don't know if they charge for that. I do know that if you change your mailing address or phone number on a GROL or ham license it is an "administrative update" with no charge.

I remember trying to get a duplicate RR some time back and there was indeed a fee for issuing one, and the fee was the same for new or duplicate permits: $60. Plus a form 605, etc.

I just went back to the FCC site and yes, those fees are still in effect.

No thanks, I'll fly with my grungy old one, which, IIRC, was issued without any fees whatsoever <g>.

Calling all Zip Codes this is the FCC "OVER"

Do you remember when the CB license thing went out the window and the FCC circulated some type of
guideline to use your first and last name initials followed by your zip code as some kind of call sign.
That was crazy if you were John Doe or John Davis, or John Dough and lived in the same zip code it was a lost cause.
Anyone have a copy of that zip code thing, it was boxed with new CB radios for a time, if not I guess I will have to go on E-Bay and buy a 23 channel radio "NEW OLD STOCK" in a sealed box.
Greetings from the new hacienda (aka home 20) in White Lake Michigan

Our FCC issued cal lsign from the 60's was...18QA0548....How many of you can go back that far and I even remember our base station radio was an INTERNATIONAL CRYSTAL EXECUTIVE crystal controlled TX with a tunable RX (WoW, FOUND IT here ! @ International Crystal "Model CTZ-100C" (Executive)). Had the matching speaker with meter, too. I had this radio until the mid 70's in working condition, sold at a hamfest after I got my ham ticket. wish I still had it as a relic..

All those pictures and not ONE interior view??? Well, if nothing else they used a great dynamic mic on it, a Shure 404B in brown (Shure was grey) with "International" where the Shure logo would be.

Old fcc license

If anyone has a copy of their old license and can scan it and email it to me, I'd be happy to use Photoshop to make you a very realistic recreation! Other than that, you won't get a copy from the FCC.

Let me know!

anything_coins@hotmail.com I check that every few days or so. Oh...and no. I don't charge anything for this. All I ask is whoever sends me a nice, hi-res scan of their original license, know that I will delete your info and put in place the info of the requestor. Thanks!

Had a CB mounted to a Schwinn 5 speed bike, single RS "Trucker" antenna attached to the frame, 12V battery opposite the RS Mobile CB.
Those were the days.
Just in case you need to review the old RS catalogs, here is a link:

Radio Shack Catalogs

They got a lot for that technology back in the day!

Yep! Mine was KOD something or other. Lived in the Bronx back then, and I was surrounded by about 15 kids on the air within a 10 block radius! Bought a Comstat 25 at Lafayette Radio on Fordham Road, and was able to hit almost all the locals with just a long wire antenna out the window! Was surrounded by 2Qs, 11Ws, KBGs, KBIs, KKDs, KMDs, and KODs., running HB115s, HE 20Cs, HB222s, HB400s, Telsats, Dynacoms, Polycoms, Metroteks, Courier 23s. Courier 1Ms, Courier Royals... You name it! Those were the days! :)

This is something that I was fortunate to receive with the CB equipment that was passed on to me by my Grandma. I have a copy of a license, not sure off hand if it was my Grandpa's license or if it belonged to my Great Uncle.

I became a ham as soon as they dropped the code test. I had an Antenna Specialists Magnum that I put up in 1967! Was still on the roof and working when I moved in 2002.

I cant remember my great grandpa's call. I'll look on some of his old gear I got after he passed. I know on I-77 going into Ohio from West Virginia, right as you pass Marietta, there is a road sign that says "State Highway Patrol Moniters CB Channel 9" and then lists their call. I might run up that way and grab a picture tomorrow.
