old fire pager

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if it is legal to poses an old fire pager and have it programed to hear the railroad instead of using a scanner? I only bring this up because I am a retired firefighter and it always seemed to me that the pagers picked up better then the scanners did. Who would I get to change the porgraming for the pager?

Yes in PA it is legal , Just take it to any radio dealer in your area. Ask the guys at your local FD/ EMS station where they get the radio work done sometimes its cheaper .

As long as you obtained it legally it's legal. As for reprogramming it just find out who programs such things in your area to avoid shipping costs. You may benefit from asking that in the PA forum and including the make and model number would be helpful. Come to think of it, asking your local fire department's communications officer could possibly be most expedient.
