thanks

Let us know what you need by frequency and what type of scanner you have (IF frequency is important when looking for crystals). With all the members here, we might be able to come up with what you need...

Scanner crystals, these days, are sometimes hard to come by and when you can find a source, they are big $$$ because hardly anyone is cutting them for scanners any longer.

I am still running 2 PRO-77s & 2 PRO-10s in addition to my programmable scanners. As a result I have a significant number of crystals. I you can post or email me a list of the freqs you want, I can see what I might have (I have a database handy in my computer, so it does not take much time to figure out).

The Radio Shack Pro-77 IF is 10.7 so you would need crystals that have an IF of 10.7. Try radioshack.com, I'm sure they might have them at the warehouse. I mean I haven't heard of scanner crystals in over 30 years.

As a general statement, for those tossing out an old scanner,,,,,
Keep the crystals and make them available to someone on this site, I'm sure that at least some might find new life in a good home.
A few of this still need them and wouldn't mind paying shipping and a tad more, but,
It's hard to justify big bucks for crystals in a radio now worth about $5.
Perhaps there could be an area in the classifieds (please, I'm not looking to stir up controversy over this suggestion, just throwing out an idea).

bw, sent pm. Don't have any that match up to what you need.

BUT I do still have a bunch if anyone else who reads this and needs some. PM Me, I'll check my stock.

Just a suggestion, not sure if its the same for your area, once the weather warms up check garage sales, I always see a scanner or two going cheap, might be able to get some crystals that way.

Good Luck

Yard/Garage sales are how I came to own most of my scanners. Makes my wife nuts.

Crystals

I've got 2 of the crystals on your list.

154.800 & 460.225

However, the UHF crystals I have are for RS triple conversion scanners (ie PRO-10). So I am not sure if that works for you or not.

Hi RGN and all,

You can try http://www.bomarcrystal.com/ or send an e-mail of inquiry to (my best guess is) sales@bomarcrystal.com and see what happens. Being I used to live in the vicinity of the plant in Middlesex NJ I did business in person and was surprised to find the rocks I needed for an old RCA VHF transceiver in the computer. On that basis I'll bet they still have the engineering data for your crystals in some old files, with something that old you have to keep a running dialog with them. Go past the receptionist and deal with engineering, she doesn't have access to those files.

BTW, many receivers use that 10.7MHz offset third overtone crystal, not just scanners. Many times that's the angle you have to play, they were common cuts only the babe with the headset doesn't know that.

My UHF xtals are for triple conversion receivers

The crystals I have are all for RS scanners. The VHF crystals use that 10.7MHz IF. The UHF have a conversion of 54.7 & 10.7 (or 44 MHz). I remember back when I got the PRO-10 it was one of few triple conversion UHF scanners out there; most others were only double conversion and req'd different crystals.

Will those crystals work in a Plectron Reciever as well?

I suppose considering the age of the Plectron it's a single conversion 10.7MHz IF. That means the crystal is a third overtone cut 10.7MHz above or below the carrier frequency. The existing crystal is likely marked, if it doesn't give the injection frequency multiply the marked number by three to find it. Sometimes the actual receive frequency is marked, it can get confusing so you just have to use your noodle.

Like the rest of them you're probably better off ordering the crystal by make and model number of the receiver than scrounging for something that may not work. Plated crystals used in these types of units, scanners, CBs and such tend to drift off frequency with age and eventually die altogether, plus the fact they're sensitive to shock and vibration. Under certain improper electrical conditions they can shatter and of course if struck or dropped they take a one way ride to kaputskiville.

Aging crystals

Yup, some crystals die an early death and some slowly drift away. The crystals I have are marked with the frequency they will receive - assuming they are used in the correct scanner. Unless a crystal is receiving what I expect it to, I check them with a frequency counter to make sure they are within operating range. With the new programmable scanners ... my how times have changed.
