Anyone here still running openear 1.7 with windows 10 ? Trying it tonight but unfortunately having a few issues, the fm and WFM selection demodulators are greyed out so can’t select them and also not sure if I have to select RTL or sound within settings ? if I select sound the waterfall works but no sound, should I only get sound with decoded audio ? its a pity I can’t select WFM as could check that the sound was working with listening to a local radio station .

anyone aware if the older 1.6 version works with windows 10 and if so anyone be as so kind to share it with me to try ?
any help or advice with the above would be very much appreciated.

I figured it out. The audio outputs are FUBAR. Go through each one until you hear something. Mine wound up being "Digital Audio (S/PDIF) (High Definition)" which I don't use for anything.

A few months since I originally posted my request for help with this particular software, can someone remind me if I need to use a virtual Audio cable with this as you would with say dsd+ ? Will then give it another try as per the kind advice given by the poster BT Justice.

It does it on its own. No need for a virtual audio cable. It will decode, but not decrypt if the traffic is encrypted.

Thanks again all working fine and to be honest from the short time I have been using it this morning I am very impressed with the speech quality on DMR. You had a chance to try out tetra , guessing most will be encrypted anyway.

Yep great stuff actually picked up the copy with tetra via a link on YouTube but appreciate you sharing anyway. As I say not even sure if there is much unencrypted Tetra transmissions around in the U.K. where I am located .

In response to BTJustice, I seem to recall (possibly a few years ago) that the author has posted that he was done with the software. I do not recall the exact words, but it led me to believe he was stopping due to accusations of some type of IP infringement.

The information I have matches Kb5udf. The author has abandoned the project. He generously left the source code up on git hub. Sadly he removed the TETRA portions in order to avoid complications.

The only known (at least to me) way to do that with an sdr/pc software is with Gnuradio. I seem to recall a youtube video of a guy demonstrating P25 decryption with a known key. I am not saying Gnuradio supports tetra, but its been a long time since I messed with it, and maybe some has implemented?

AFAIK, OpenEar still exists to whomever is willing to pay hundreds of USDs in Crypto currency per license to crack Basic Protection encryption of Motorola (256 keys) and Hytera (10 chars, 32 chars and 64 chars) and probably also NXDN Scrambler (32767 keys).
If you have your own key or know how to find it by yourself for those "simple encryption" modes, then you can use the free software named DSD FME instead of OpenEar.
Tetra is currently not supported in DSD FME.
