How do i figure out.. With out listning none stop and reading unitrunker at the same time. To figure out what Radio ID numberis what unit? Is there some type of logic to it?
Like... ID 8697 is 6Mike 405. There is no 405 in their id number. OS does that have nothing to do with it?>
In Chatham Kent here the police and fire have their unit numbers as their ID numbers. So its much more easy. But some times they say they are a different unit but transmitting on a different radio

This make any cents? haha

The radio ID (that shows up on the banner on the dispatch console) is linked to the 'Hard ID' of the vehicle. I believe this is typically the number you will see on the side of a cruiser (something like 6-1234). The confusion sets in when you realize that the vehicles are used by different people all the time, so the call sign you hear on the radio does not tie in with the hard ID. When you hear officers logging on, they will refer to their 'Soft ID' as being 6Mike 001 or something like that. At each shift change, a Sargent will fax a list to the comm centre of who is in what vehicle. So when Officer Bob radios the comm centre, he will say 'Officer Bob signing on, badge #12345'. The dispatcher will check out what hard ID he should be, assign his name to that radio for the shift and tell him 'Ok, you are signed on and I've assigned you as 6Juliet201'. Hopefully that makes sense. The quick answer would have been that there is no direct relation with the physical radio ID and the soft ID the person is using. Other agencies, as you mentioned, will just go by a vehicle number and that's it. When London Police call for car 20, they get car 20. Engine 9 is always Engine 9. The way the OPP do it is so a specific zone officer doesn't have to be in a specific vehicle. He still has his soft ID (6Juliet001 etc), but that can be applied to any number of vehicles.

That's exactly what I do. I made the same mistake when I first started using Trunker on Fleetnet. Spent lots of time entering soft ID's then all of a sudden none of them matched the next day. So now I just mark them as '6M Lambton Unit' or something like that. Over time you will also seen vehicles that used to be in one area pop up in another. Either that or the radio was put into a different vehicle somewhere else. Ambulances on the other hand are always the same. So feel free to label radio ID xyz as 'Ambulance 1234'.

Although the link between ambulance hard IDs & soft IDs remain unchanged (unless the radio is moved to a different vehicle), there are some ambulance call signs assigned to individual persons and not to specific vehicles. This applies to the "Health #" call signs and to the senior management of some EMS services.

Mississauga & Brampton Fire radio hard IDs are tied to the soft IDs except when the frontline unit is out of service and a spare is being used. The call sign of the regular unit is used, not that of the in-service spare. For example, if A150 is replacing A107, the call sign remains A107 even though a different hard ID will be displayed.

Thats the same with our fire dept here.
Our main truck unit 3-11 is out of service or another fire service with in chatham kent has taken it (they like to take our truck and our ladder truck even thou chatham has better trucks then wallaceburg)
They take our main truck and give us a brand new unit from chatham. Unit 2-11. When the firemen go out to a call they never really know if they should say 2-11 since thats what the ID number is. Or if they should call it 3-11 still. SOme times they wont even use that truck. They will just take the ladder truck, the under water resq truck or the pumper. Just so they wont have to say unit 2-11 or 3-11 and get in trouble by the dispatcher
Confusion
