So I was searching through the Orleans Parish System today because I noticed the Orleans Parish School Board talkgroups weren't listed. I wanted to try to find some. This was probably a bad idea on a school holiday, but anyway...

After blocking out a few Public Belt IDs, I found three that aren't listed in the Orleans Parish System here on RR.com. One of them (ID:976) was actually another Public Belt talkgroup, but I haven't yet managed to hear enough from the other two (ID:48 and ID:1136) to know what they are.

I guess what I'm asking is: does anyone have any info on the OPSB talkgroups? Specifically if 48 and 1136 are a part of them? And should I submit 976 to the database for Public Belt?

And here's another newbie question (please note that they are dwindling :))... what shows up as "ID:48" on my scanner should correspond to the DEC value in the RR.com database, right? :D

Thanks!

EDIT: I'm pretty sure 1136 is another Public Belt talkgroup.

Okay, let's see if I can clear some of this up for you. First, if you indeed can identify a TG that we don't have in the DB, then certainly submit it (use the submission link on the approprite page in the DB); however, secondly, ensure that you are correct when you do so.

For example, you will note that the Orleans Parish TRS is a fall-back system for the New Orleans Port Authority subscribers (and I suspect the other side of that is also true). When different entities do this, they usually coordinate the TG's so that there is no conflicts between systems, this allows (from the individual user standpoint) a seamless transfer of communications if the systems start to back up one another. I know for a fact that there are lots of these agreements (well at least pre-Katrina there were) in the NOLA metro area. One I am very familiar with is St. John, St. Charles, & Marathon Oil. So, when you say you are picking up transmissions on TG 48 on the Orleans Parish TRS, are you sure it isn't the Harbor Police Ch B? Normally in the DB we do not put these cross-system TG's in the foreign system as it just leads to confusion, but you need to be aware of these situations and filter your submissions accordingly.

As for the School Board, I don't know of any specific information about them, but maybe one of the radio tech guys will chime in here. We have a few that lurk on the board.

And yes, the number you see on the scanner is the one that corresponds to the DEC that you see in the database (at least for Moto and P25 systems).

Thanks again, Lou! :)

Now that you've cleared things up for me, I'm pretty sure that TG48 I was hearing was Harbor Police. Why would OPSB be operating on a school holiday? :D

So as not to clog the board with new threads illustrating my ignorance, I'll ask this here:

Are there any systems in the Louisiana database that I should enable I-Call on? Does anyone actually use it? Also, does it "hurt" the performance of the scanner if it's on?

Thanks! :)

It does not hurt performance...as to if anyone uses it, I have been gone too long to comment on that.

Thanks, Lou. :) (That should be my motto.)

In the scant one hour since I asked the question I've decided to program in "i0" as a seperate TGID in some of my systems to see if I can catch any I-Call stuff.

Are you using IDTrackerII? If not look into it. It will ease your pain and actually help since you really can't watch the display every second. If you don't know what it is, take a look at the author's page, he is an acquaintance of mine in Baton Rouge from when I worked there. It really is a great free piece of software and helps immensely when trying to discover new stuff. In addition to the programming cable you already have, you will need an audio cable to run from the headphone jack to the line-in or mic-in on your sound card.

The link to the download (as well as the link to the Scanning Baton Rouge page) seems to be down at the moment, but I'm definitely gonna check them out when I can. Thanks for the tip!

Yep, this happens every time he issues a new release because it is pretty popular and he reaches the capacity for his (at home) web site. Check out the thread in the software forum for a mirror site for the download, but I think you will need to look at his actual site to get the overview.
