LODI The Ohio Highway Patrol has lost one of its own today.

Trooper Jack R. Holland, Jr., a salvage inspector for the Massillon Regional District, died from a severe reaction to a bee sting, the patrol said.

Holland was conducting salvage inspections at the Seville CDL facility. After returning to his desk, he was stung by a yellow jacket around 1 p.m. and was taken to a Lodi hospital. He was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m.

“This is a tragic loss for the patrol family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Trooper Holland’s family and friends,” said Col. Richard H. Collins, patrol superintendent.

Holland, a 19-year veteran, is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and children, Sabrina, 14, Alexis, 10, and John 8.

I agree that anyone who knows they are allergic needs to have an epi pen. However, you can be stung in the past and been fine and the next sting could be your last. That is how anaphalaxis works, you have to be sensitized by a previous sting before you can have the problem. Usually you will have progressively more severe reactions, but not always.

Very sad news indeed.

Does anyone have a link to Ohio's Fraternal Order of Police? And does the family of Trooper Holland have a memorium established yet?
