Out of Band (396T)

Today, while searching in PA, I came across what sounded to me like a Motorola control channel on 820.6125. I programmed the frequency as a MOT 800 system, but was greeted with the 'out of band' message.

In the Federal forum, Joseph11 mentioned EDACS CCs of 169 & 170 MHz. My experience with EDACS is limited to 2 systems (NJ) in the 800 MHz range. Apparently, they are not frequency bounded.

With regard to MOT 800 standard systems, are there established frequency boundaries, or is the 396 'internally limited'? I also tried to enter it as an 800 splinter system (for the heck of it). NO GO.

Yes, I did note the gap while searching. The control channel (820.6125) was within the allowable range, but the radio would not allow the frequency to be accepted. Also, the control channel could have been the highest frequency of the system, and programming in CC only mode, the system should have been accepted, barring any internal restriction.

Is it possible that the monitored frequency was either Military or other Federal agency? I could not find any listing in the FCC database.

They'd need Motorola trunked radios capable of receiving the 806-824 range. I'm not aware of any.

Why don't you record the audio so others can hear it?

Well, if you're really curious about the system, I'd say all you can do is use Unitrunker to monitor the control channel directly, and see what it thinks it's doing, talk groups, etc.

You may not be able to figure out a valid frequency list, but the talk groups used might just be recognizable as some local user, and let you know you're receiving a spurious response to their real control channel, elsewhere.

Sorry, frequency was monitored during out of state trip. Not likely to be back for some time.
