Outdoor wide band discone antenna

I currently have a cheap out door discone antenna and want to upgrade it. Any suggestions?

Buy a antenna for the frequency’s you listen to the most, I have a diamond x50 in the attic and works very good even out of it’s designated band 2m 70cm

What are you attempting to improve, performance, durability, optimization for a particular band/frequency, greater distance, ETC?

And...? A digital doesn't require an upgrade in antennas. Analog/digital antennas, no difference.

Discones seem to do everything but no good at it.

If you are generally happy with the existing Discone performance but want to get a better one, brands like Diamond (D-130 series) are very good and they last a long time.

Age doesn't mean much if it was installed correctly and maintained. If the antenna still works, then you are good.

If you feel it's failing, then replacing the antenna AND the coaxial cable may be a good idea.

Discones can be a good option for scanner listeners that want to make the most of the frequency coverage of their scanner. If you have a specific system you want to listen to, then a band specific antenna will easily outperform a discone.
