• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a couple of old P1225's sitting around that ive sniped off of ebay, that are basically no use to me since I cant program them.

I need to know, does the P1225 Software(HVN9054C) work on my XP machine? The software pulls up fine but I was told it may not work right.

And my PC doesnt have a serial port so will a USB>RS232 converter work? I have the Cable coming in.

I can't get the P1225 software I have to work with XP or NT.

GP300 software runs fine on both machines, and the P1225 is a newer handheld.
I give up on programming them, they just sit getting dusty in a box.
We had one old machine that would do them, but someone threw it out.

I have the GP300 software and HT1000 software as well. Is it supposed to run in a little DOS looking box while in Windows? or do you boot into the software?

Run in pure DOS only. It'll cause all sorts of headaches if you run it under any form of windows.

you need to find an old pc and a copy of win 95/98/2k/ME. for the P1225 use windows. for the older stuff F8 and boot to a command prompt.

i've had the 1225 work on both XP and even vista. but it was a pain to get it working and i don't remember how we did it. i just keep an older laptop for programming those radios.

For the P1225 it comes up fine but I dont have the cable yet to test it. Ive heard that it can have problems running on Xp because it wont read/write for some reason. What about the Usb to rs232 cable to plug the cable into?

that will work for the P1225, just set the port so it is 1 or 2. won't work for the DOS programs though, for tha tyou must have a physical port.

I dunno if they make just a programming cable for it. What I have is a drop in charger/programmer, with a 25 pin D-connector on it, that goes into the RIB box.

they make both, one that you take the battery off and slide it on there(it looks like a battery itself) and the other that you seem to have you drop the thing into what looks like a charger. The one that looks like a battery is RIBless, the rib is built into it.

even though i work for a MSS we never bought the official cable. goto batlabs.com and they have instructions for building a ribbed or ribless cable.

When I was still working at a Moto shop, we kept a Win 3.11 machine working for P1225, since it seemed to run the RSS well. However, several years back, before I left that shop, Moto updated the P1225 RSS to run under XP and it was available at the time from MOL (with a license of course!). You might want to check with Moto and see if that is still available and how much. Won't be cheap, I am sure of that, but you could probaly alleviate any software problems by going with the version meant to run under the NT kernel ie. XP, W2K, ect.

Good luck.

I have never had a problem with Rss 4.0 P1225/m1225 on XP PRO but NEVER use a USB cable. The only radios that were designed to use USB is the XTS/APX lines and some very cheap radios. The USB cable will get you at some point.

Well considering I paid my $300 for the Rss already i dont really want to pay for a newer version for XP. Would the USB cable work if it came down to it?
