I am trying to use my SDS100 to do discovery for an extremely large and undocumented P25 Phase 2 system. I used SDRs to do the initial process of discovery. But for the next steps I am not able to use my computer set ups, as they are not really practical in the environment (in the car).

I am trying to get adjacent site information from the dozen sites I currently have already discovered using SDRs. There are over 130 sites for this system. This is outside of the United States, so there are no FCC licenses to look at. I was wondering if the SDS 100 is capable of logging the adjacent site information for some of the sites I cannot receive in my area, while driving to them. I would be able to do this with my computer, but it's not something I can really easily carry with me.

Discovery will only do one site at a time so setup discovery on the site you want to do.

Yes but will uniden’s discovery feature log the adjacent site data, the control channel is providing?

This is a little OT (well, off my topic) but the best way I've found to tackle a large project is to take it small bites at a time. Before you know it, it's done.

If you can find a network of receivers that can supply raw audio, you can analyze it from those as long as the control channel is in range of those receivers. Of course this is not using the Uniden scanners. I also do not see the scanners having the internal capability to do this. It might be nice, but it would take a lot of R&D. A laptop might be your best route using DSD+. I think DSD+ will even log/make the system file that has the control channels for all sites and adjacents on P25 systems.

One thing you can do is to set the channels up trunked using ID SEARCH and on the SDS series use the detailed display to view much of the information such as active frequencies Site IDs, NAC, Etc.

Find some fellow enthusiasts who can help with the more distant sites.

No. DSDPlus logs this
What would have been helpful would be that the x36HP & SDS series scanners had the Control Channel output feature that the XT & P2 series scanners can do, connected through Unitrunker or Pro96.com. Granted, the x36 & SDS scanners have an LCN Finder option, as well as System Status, not available on the earlier models, but if it was possible (via firmare) to add that CC outputcapability, it would be a 'plus' for the newest models. Of course, that might not be possible if a dedicated circuit, on the main system board, is needed. In that case, maybe condider the option for a later, unannounced, model at a future date.

Thank you all for the replies. I would have loved Uniden to have this feature built in to their trunked discovery feature. I guess I will use my laptop, I also have DSDPlus Fastland laying around somewhere, but I mostly used SDRTrunk, as I can live select and add new sites, and view the data that they decode, so I manually fetch the adjacent site data, and add the ones I don't have from there.

SDRTRunk is a fine application (I really love the audio output quality too), but it's not designed to be a sleuthing tool. DSDPlus (Fast Lane) is your best bet. It will write all of the P25 site information that it finds to a DSDPlus.P25data file and make it real easy for you to have all of that information in one place. You don't have to manually do anything. You just tune to a CC, let it decode fully the site details, then move on to another site.

DSD+ does what I want more easily. Is there a way to also display RSSI or that's not directly a feature available on DSD+? dsd.JPG
