I bought this 8 ohm speaker that can be used with the 3.5mm mono jack of the display board (there is an onboard power amplifier). It is a nice option if you want a speaker that doesn't require battery charging or the need for any power source. It is nice and loud with crisp audio. I am very impressed with it!

I also have a programmer arriving tomorrow for the display module and I’m going to use some of my old programming skills to try and customize the display to my liking. We’ll see how this goes…..

What did you have in mind for programming changes? I was going to look in to some reprogramming myself but haven't had time.

To begin with, I was planning to start off real basic and see about changing up how information is displayed and laid out on the screen to be more organized and more pleasing to the eyes. Once I master that and get more comfortable delving into things, I was thinking of looking into adding some new menus and options to expand functionality of the display unit. I just started looking at the display source code in the repository and I’m starting to brush up on my C and C++ as it’s been a very long time (mid ‘90’s) since I’ve programmed in that language and I just remember enough to be dangerous at this point. 😁

I’d be happy to share any display firmware I generate with others.

I really look forward to seeing what you come up with. I've shaken hands with C++ but that's as far as our relationship goes haha. My line of work resides with ladder logic more than anything else. I've dabbled with some other languages but really need to dive in more. Just not enough hours in the day unfortunately. If you're needing anyone to take anything for a test drive let me know.

I know what you mean about not enough hours in the day. Working full time, caring for a 21 month old and trying to maintain things around the house doesn’t leave much “play” time for me, but I’m going to make this display my hobby and work on it when I can (most likely weekends).

I’ll let you know if I generate any firmware that I need tested. I’m planning on starting off with baby steps and just rearranging the info on the display at first to get my feet wet and then I plan on moving on to more advanced things once I’ve had time to study the code and get familiar with what Todd is doing in his source code.
