• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ok so I’m picking up some P7100ip radios with p25 cai and aes. I have a RIB and programming cable included with the order and my understanding is that to load keys, I would need a different cable that presents a 2k21r load across accessory connector pins eight and 10. My initial plan was to modify the cable with a spdt switch and resistor on one pole, allowing one cable to be used for both programming and keyloading.

I’m now wondering if I can just place the switch and resistor in the RIB so I can just flip a switch on the RIB, then power the radio and load keys, power off, flip it back, restart the radio, and program as usual. Are there reasons for not doing it this way? Can I just use a 2k2r or do I need to add the additional 10r in series to get to 2k21r?

Lastly, does anyone have a pin out for the P7100 accessory connector?

Thanks,
Brian

AES FTW
if you have the correct resistor across GND and UDC Sense the 7100 will go into keyload mode. Their is a tolerance, but closer to 2.21k is what you need. The spdt will work also. Never used a rib box personally to load a 7100.

Also, make sure you have the right DSP code (F8 or F9?) or it won't do aes.

Hey thanks! So the radios have Option 39 AES installed… Harris KeyLoader says F6 or later to use it, but doesn’t mention anything about a specific version for AES… I’ll check that out. Thanks for the warning! How did you load keys? I know RFGuys makes/made(?) a cable with a TTL inside, but I’ve heard from multiple sources that they aren’t shipping right now due to health problems.

Thanks for the help!

Option 37 is AES. Option 39 is P25 Trunking. There is only one version of AES for the L3HARRIS line, AES-256. DSP F8 is for P7100's without encryption options enabled. If you don't have the "key generator", then KeyLoader won't have any keys to load.

Sorry, I meant 37… just a typo. So if I do have access to key generator (key admin) and key loader, and I have option 37, F6 DSP and a RIB + cable with 2k21r on the UDC sense pin, I should be good right? This is the setup I’m currently looking at.

Thanks for the help.

You shouldn't be using a RIB. You should be using a standard programming cable either modified for key loading or a key load cable for the P7100 series. F6 DSP doesn't support AES, only DES.

I don't want to go further into specifics about this subject on the open forum. PM me.

I have F7 in a 7100 and 37 is working fine.

Good to know! Mine are shipping with F9 so I’m set for sure. I bought the last key loading cable from NLT and I have a programming cable coming and a six bank charger. Should make a nice little set. All VHF p7100 plus my unity portable and unity mobile. This will give me six portables and a mobile all working together. I even found new cases for 7100s. Im super excited!

What did they charge for the key loading cable?

$60 for the P7100 keyload cable. They only listed one in stock. I was planning to modify a programming cable but for $60, it’s not worth the time, hassle, and risk of destroying one cable to try and create another…
