I was told by a very good source during last brush fire season that they are no longer utilizing most of the fire frequencies. Most of the day to day stuff is carried out on the P25 state system. On occasions, you MIGHT hear them in analog on one of the fire frequencies when they need to interop with local fire companies, but even then that is rare from what I gather.

It very much depends where you are. Certain parks still make regular use of VHF analog.
All of the VHF analog is programmed into new radios. The statewide simplex channels can definitely be used for wildfires occurring in areas where there is unreliable portable coverage on P25.

I forgot to mention earlier that there is a section in the wiki tracking which parks operate primarily on analog vs P25. As far as forestry goes, P25 is the main with analog being used on an as needed basis.

The list is by no means 100% up to date. Anything bolded is known to be spending most of their time on P25. Anything not bolded might be analog, but also might not be updated.

I know that even though the Hills Creek complex is on P25, they were still using analog for the supplemental rangers brought in during the fall foliage rush last fall. That might change for this year, but they hand out little analog only portables to extra personnel that come in for the additional staffing.

FD11 (Pinchot) still heavily uses the Analog repeaters and simplex frequencies, and the Air repeaters and Interstate Compact channels are great to listen to during the "season" with all the aircraft communicating with each other/ground and the bases.

Last year there was some incident, maybe a brush fire, that I picked up analog activity from Ricketts Glen.

DCNR has been spraying for the gypsy moths here in my area the last week. Caught this on 159.285 this morning. Discussing weather moving in and landing to refill for spraying. Seems to be a truck on site as they were discussing safety issues with landing.

If you're lucky and catch them working with their smaller aircraft, you might see them land on top of the support truck. That's a treat.

HAI stays pretty busy in the state. They do spraying and firefighting work for DCNR and also use the same freq for work with DEP's Vector Mgmt program. They do a lot of private ag spraying and other work, too. I've seen them do seeding work along some of the gas pipelines in the marcellus shale region.

Great catch, didn't have that programmed. Constant activity on STARNet 12707 Delaware State Forest District 19 regarding weather at various locations all week, wasn't sure what they were doing. Thanks.

If you are near an operation these maybe worth monitoring.

There was a lot of spraying this year. Spongy Moth (fka gypsy moth) populations are cyclical and can be really bad some years, but not others in a given area.

DCNR can still occasionally be heard on analog in Monroe County.
