If we keep this updated I think it might be useful as a sticky, but lets see how long it goes.
There are a lot of new talk groups popping up on the pal8 system and unfortunately we don't have enough areas covered with listeners to catch all of them but maybe we can get some at least. I am monitoring the Richland, Harbison, Lexington, Sumter, Sandy Run, & Calhoun Sites for new or unknown talk groups. I found 1 last night.

Richland Site - TGID 51392 - RIDs 56977,56978,56979, & 56980. It was law enforcement or security they were checking cars/trucks coming through an area around 0100 last night. The only location they mentioned was McLeod. I've set my radio on hold on this talk group with recording on the PC so hopefully I can catch some more descriptive traffic soon.

I don't know why but in the past a lot of Darlington Co traffic has carried over to the Lexington and Richland sites, so yes, good chance, let us know what you find. :)

700mhz freq's

First let me say that I'm just getting back to scanning due to the fact that I am now the owner of my first digital scanner (pro 197) so if I say something stupid that's why. I am still trying to wrap my head around programmig the thing but that's another story. My question is that while I was manually programming in freq's and talkgroups I noticed that I was picking up local law (not sure of exactly who) on the upper part of the 700mhz band. I do not see any of those freq's listed anywhere on radio referance. Does anyone know what those are?

Lots of strange things happen when you PGM by hand. Simple trunking and conventional can be done by hand. 20 Banks of 600 to 800 items with both Trunking and Conventional has to done by software. There are 42 other modes to program other than Freq, PL, and Text. With software you can SEE your mistakes. Good Luck. Larry

Hey. I have the same scanner as you, and yes, at first i did it all by hand before finally discovering how great and convenient software can be.

Larry's right. Get yourself a free trial off the internet and upgrade to RR Premium, programing will be easier.

Good luck, Vince

My Unknowns

Alright - So I finally went thru my scanner, and these are the unknows I got tha aren't in the DB:

5776
800
51392
5968
50896
32122
10382 - TGID in the same #'s range as O-burg County ??
14288 - TGID in the same #'s range as Dorchester Co ??
18128
37616
64064
30960
25120 - TGID in the same #'s range as "COBRA Ops" ((**On a side note - what is COBRA ?? **))
13136
18592
5056

Anyone eles picking these up? I've heard em all as I was driving so I wasn't able to take notes on the content discussed on each TG. Anyone monitoring Dorchester or Orangeburg have any info on the two TG's I listed that are in the same range as their other channels?

**Also - A while back I saw a spreadsheet somewhere on here of all the unknown Tg's and guesses of what they could be, and I can't seem to locate it now. Does anyone remeber what I'm talking about???

There is a list of unknown Palmetto 800 talkgroups published on the Palmetto 800 wiki page here:
Palmetto 800 - The RadioReference Wiki

This list is years old and terribly out of date. Lots of talkgroups listed there are now identified and in the database. Anyone can edit the wiki page, so feel free to jump in and add your list and remove any indentified groups if I don't get to it first.

This thread can be very helpful in discussing and getting possible IDs on some of these groups. Please list descriptions of the type of traffic you hear: law, EMS, Fire, college security, utility, etc, and information about unit identifiers that are available. Also which sites you hear the talkgroup on.

**sorry for my original post before i edited - I got this thread confused with another :) **

Anyways. Thank you again Brian, this was the list I was looking for! I was in the WIKI last night and couldnt find it, but maybe I just wasnt looking hard enough, because it's obviously right there.

I'm going to do some cross-referencing with my unknowns and the list and see what I come up with.

I, too, agree that this thread could become a valuable resourse that is CURRENT and UP TO DATE with PAl800 unknowns. Let's keep this alive and get to the bottm of all these new TG's.

OKAY- here is the list of my unknownsthat I previously posted. I have cross referenced with the Pal800 wiki's list, and here's what I came up with. It didn't add much more info than I already had:

5776
800
51392
5968
50896 --- Listed in wiki as possibly "EMD/SLED?" with RID "EMD SHADOW"
32122
10382 - TGID in the same #'s range as O-burg County ??
14288 - TGID in the same #'s range as Dorchester Co ??
18128
37616
64064 ---- Listed in wiki as possibly "SC EMD?"
30960 ---- Listed in wiki as possibly "SC EMD/ESF/DHEC?" with RID's "202xx,569xx,620xx "
25120 - TGID in the same #'s range as "COBRA Ops" ((**On a side note - what is COBRA ?? **))
13136
18592
5056

*One of my problems is that I do the majority of my scanning on the road, so I can't always take notes as I hear something new, but from now on i'll make the best effort I can to keep track of information and hints when I notice these TG's or any other unknowns.

Has anyone heard these TG's? Does anyone have any other unknowns to add to my list?

And by the way, I've heard most of the above around the Cola, Richland, Harbison, Lex sites.

hi gang..

been a longtime scanner, and ham radio op... located on the Lee/Kershaw county line, just off 20 at 108.
scanners include- Pro- 2006, 2005, (2) 2054's, (2) BCT-15's, BCD-996T and several handhelds..

Looking to upgrade my shack in the near future, so, if you have any suggestions, or would be interested in
one of the radios I have, let me know...

I am hoping to get more active scanning, and could use help with getting a tower setup, and radios replaced and programmed.. If you are looking for something, drop me a line, I may have it..

thanks

Matt

Is it possible that any of these talkgroups that you cant identify could be the Viper talkgroups from N.C.
If you are running a wildcard the Palmetto 800 and the Viper system both share some of the same control channel frequencies. I have found this out by monitoring both systems. Hope this may help

Dont think Viper could reach much beyond Greenville. I monitor the Brevard tower here in Greenville and it takes special antenna to get enough gain to reach 90% data. The other towers dont even register. I understand there is a new antenna coming on the market for the Viper. I have some photos. Thats the fun part of this hobby, to figure out who's talking.
