Hi all I wanted to create a master thread and to start I have a semi update to Lexington county radio situation. The Lexington county combined dispatch center is still severely understaffed and at times only having 4 dispatchers/call takers on a shift. You will commonly hear the dispatcher say “standby I’m on a 911” or “standby I’m on a call”. All 3 of the municipal law dispatch talk groups are almost always patched. Units who have a chase or active call will ask the dispatcher to unpatch but he/she says they can’t. For fire/ems they are dispatched on their dispatch talk group then are switched to an ops talk group. LCPS OPS 1 is used for medical calls, LCPS OPS 2 is used for mvc’s (motor vehicle collision) and some fire calls and LCPS OPS 6 is used for almost all fire calls. Fire/ems used to be dispatched and have their response be on dispatch as well and only assigned an ops channel if the call needed it but due to the dispatcher shortage they off load most traffic to a couple ops talkgroups and the same is done on the law side. Also all Lexington county law enforcement agencies will be encrypting over the next few years. Currently the Lexington county sheriffs office is fully encrypted and cayce of is in the process of encrypting now. West Columbia and the remaining law talkgroups will be encrypted. Wouldn’t be surprised if Columbia pd joins the party and then all Columbia area law will be fully secure.
