That would be my recommendation as well.

If you are able to actually order the case, when it arrives, you'll still have to disassemble the scanner to replace it. So why not just refinish the existing case, unless there is something wrong other than flaking paint.

Also, while you have it apart, that would be a good time to do StaticDischarge's hum fix if you have that issue.

If you sent it back for Uniden Service you’d pay $90. If you can’t prep and paint it yourself for whatever reason, ask the local industrial arts teacher at the high school if it is something he could use as a project… or if he knew of someone who would take care of it… for much much less than $90.

I have bought several used scanners that I have repainted and still have the same can of paint.
Prep it paint it let it sit in the sun for 4 hours to bake the paint on. Now you have a nice new finish for your scanner.
