So I am listening to my TRX-1 and it stops on a Fire Dispatch talkgroup.
I never did hear the mobile unit(s) respond but I saw the word "patch" appear on the screen. I never saw this before. Why did the word "patch" appear?

So the reply that I did not hear on the one talkgroup would probably be heard on the other talkgroup?
This is nice. I did not know about this TRX1 function. Which I can only assume also works with the TRX2. Right?

It is not a function of the scanner but how that system was setup.

You might have just missed the reply due the scanner scanning and have a late entry on that talkgroup that was already transmitting when your scanner landed on it. Many of the public safety replies are very brief and it's easy to miss some them. That is why it's better to more than one scanner rather, than have one scanner scan too many items.

There are different kinds of patches. One of them let the dispather be heard on all the TG's that are patched but any response from the units will not be heard on any of the other TG's in the patch to keep the conversation "clean". Another patch will have full audio between TG's and are usually used when responding to an emergency where different units would like to hear when anyone arrives at the scene, and any false PTT from a portable hanging from the belt will interfere with communications.
