Before Berks Co went to their Phase 2 system, the constables had a low band rptr on 45.5 out/46.02in. They are on TG1011 on the Co Phase 2 system and encrypted. It's interesting to note that the Co has renewed the low band license in Jan of this year.

Yeah I know. I was just joking around - sort of. But I guess I better also mention that any comments posted here are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of Devola Volunteer Fire
With regard to Allegheny county that was originally posted. They can request from the county to get a county level callsign. Usually they will come up on I believe either sheriff or PS1. Only come up on the police channel in area if need assistance.

They don't call out on what they are doing. Its only if they need assistance.
Thanks for the. Information I'm just trying to update my call sign list and never heard a constable calll out on the radio or maybe I have heard it just don't know what the call sign they would use .

York County Constables can operate on the County network (at their own expense for radios) using the prefix "81". Their "home" TG is West Police but they may switch to wherever they are actively serving.

Even though they are referred to as "Pennsylvania State Constables", they are not an enforcement arm of any particular state agency. They are locally elected positions and serve functions related to the PA magisterial court system (lower level courts in PA...also known as district justices) with some ovesight by the higher Common Pleas Courts. Constables typically serve papers for the local DJ in the district where they were elected, but they don't work for the court directly. It is a weird and acrhaic vestige of the past that continues on to this day.

The ONLY qualification for election as a Constable is one more vote than one's opponent(s).

Constables are essential "Gig contractors" whose remuneration is determined by the number of warrants and other papers that they serve.

IOW, mercenaries. As noted above, many are fine, honorable former LEOs but there are some who are predatory.

In my county, the constables used to have offices within the county Sheriff's department. About 20 years ago, they were removed and don't really have an 'office' now.

In Delaware County the constables can use a channel on the county analog system and I believe there is talk group planned for them on the new county trucked system. I also believe a few of the local constables lease airtime on a local dmr system

Constable out of Chester PA.

There was a constable here in Monroe county several years ago who got into trouble because his car looked like a police car and said police on it. He was pulling people over and performing local and state police duties and I believe he was charged. State constables duties are very limited. The case was in the Pocono Record. Also, constables here in Monroe county are on a seperate dedicated channel, not sure who pays for it and I really haven’t heard any traffic on it. They may also be using PD.Countywide occasionally.

If anyone is interested in get to know more information on what constables actually do in in some of their powers as elected officials, I came across a YouTube channel to help explain it.

And there isn’t a single Constable in Berks that uses that because they would have to purchase their radio out of pocket.
