Last year, the city of Pensacola modified the emission designator on their radio license from 20K0F3E, to 20K0F9W. Recently, a few scanner owners have been reporting strange digital sounds on their scanners, sounding much like Project 25 modulation emanating from the current TRS that is in place. However, their scanners are not equipped to decode this format.
I can remember reading an article a few years ago, where the city of Pensacola was looking for grant money to upgrade their radio system. Likewise, with so many other agencies in Florida migrating to P25 trunking technology, it would make sense if a conversion from analog to digital was underway. Maybe someone who has some inside information on this system can shed some light on this matter?
Yours truly,
Ron
