Anyone what a CODE BLUE is when announced od the MEDIC BAND?????

The county health departments around Philadelphia issue "Code Blue" alerts when outside temps are going to fall below a certain threshold. It's an indicator to police, ems, and various social services organizations and charities to keep an eye out for homeless who may be affected by the cold weather so that those folks can be taken to shelters if they're willing.

Here's an old press release explaining the specifics for the city itself:

Philly medics do get into things like level one or level two traumas. They dispatch an engine or ladder to assist a squad who call in for help on a cardiac arrest and that comes out as a CODE BLUE.

Just a FYI, a Squad is a specialized piece of fire apparatus that has all the tools of a ladder but on an engine chassis. The Ambulances are the little meat wagons ;-)

The term squad has many different meanings. It all depends on where you are. I know in South Jersey a squad in Gloucester and Salem Counties is an ambulance while in Camden County it is a rescue pumper. Same goes for Delaware County in PA. Squad is often used as a generic term for an ambulance though. Again, all depends on where you are as to what they use the term for.

I would hope that your area is jumping on the board with the rest of the nation with common terminology and No TEN CODE!!! Brush, Tender, Ladder, Tower Ladder, Pumper, Bls Ambulance, Als Ambulance and Squad. LoL it is quite an adjustment in my little slice of haven, we have had tankers for years and a Bls is a bus.. Now ya ask for a bus and that is what you are going to get, and don’t ask for a tanker LOL it has wings..
