They lease them with intent to buy at the end. BUT they lease with miles so if they go over which they always do by a ton they have to pay for it thus part of their budget problem...

They get rid of their cars at 95,000 usualy but it used to be 55,000.

I wouldn't trust a patrol car with 75,000+ miles on it. Too much wear and tear on the frame, points, ball joints, and such to be in a high speed chase.

Then again Kansas City Mo has cars with over 170,000 Miles on them because they just either wont buy new cars or dont have the money.

I think that also depends on where and how the car is used.

The Deputies in Leelanau county, for example, very rarely need to push the cars harder than normal everyday driving. Since their cars never (well, very rarely) see any abuse, they can keep some them well over 100,000 miles, and they look and work just fine with few problems.

On the flip side, Traverse City PD's cars (as well as some Grand Traverse SO and local MSP cars) see much more abuse...constant stop/go traffic, frequent emergency response calls, and the occasional high speed chase (there seem to be 1 or 2 a week around here in the summer months). They can usually get a good 75,000 miles out of some, but often have to replace them much sooner because the maintenance costs become too excessive.

As for the new Tahoe, I don't care for it much either, but I'm sure it will grow on me like most new cars eventually do. I've also heard they aren't as radio/light installation friendly as the previous model(s).

The Deps here don't ruin cars either but then again they aren't constantly doing median hops in the snow and mud and hitting relfectors or junk in the median.

Border Patrol in Sault Ste. Marie now (well, maybe a month and a half) has a new Tahoe I believe. It definitely looks better than those though, in my opinion. I'd take pictures, but I'm nervous I'd catch a lot of flak for it.

Who is getting the Grand Prix's sitting next to the Tahoes in the parking lot? Are those for police use? That would be rare.

Compared to civilian Tahoes, these are relatively cheap at $36K! Of course the civilian models are a little more deluxe.

What does a typical Crown Vic with the police package list for?

Grand Traverse county paid $19,976 each for their recent order of 7 CVPI's, but I don't believe that included light/radio/MDT/graphics installation costs.

I'd say no. It looks like the photos were just taken in a storage lot for the dealer, not at the upfitter.

As a side note, Cook County Sheriff and Illinois State Police used to have a couple of Monte Carlos and a couple of Grand Prix GTP's. I talked to a trooper during one of our "Roadside Safety Checks" and he said that those cars were a PITA because they weren't heavy duty enough for normal patrol use, and were constantly in the shop.

Yes, I would not recommend FWD for patrol use. The GTP accelerates much faster than an Impala though. It is being replaced with a RWD G8 with a 362 HP 6.0L V8.

FWD for Police is bad. Look at the Intrepid and 02 Impala's. They couldn't keep brakes or front ends in them things...

Accurate 1/43 Scale Msp Goose Comming Soon

I hate trying to make 1/43 diecast cars because they are so damn small to paint and decal.

I do all kinds of 1/24, 1/26 and 1/18 diecast cars for local departments but 1/43 is a PITA.

WELL FEAST YOUR EYES ON THIS...

Also a 1/43 1941 MSP car but there isn't a pic of it yet.

I'm geeked about this one...
