I was one of the backpackers contacted for information as mentioned in this article. Unfortunately I had nothing to report except who else might have been in the area. Has anyone heard radio traffic on this search?

Searchers looking for missing plane at Grand Canyon National Park

The National Park Service says it is searching for a missing airplane that was last seen at the Grand Canyon Airport Friday.

According to information from the National Park Service, a pilot flying over the canyon reportedly detected an emergency locator transmitter about 30 miles northwest of Grand Canyon Village in the Fossil Cooridor of the park. The NPS sent a helicopter to investigate on Saturday, but the crew didn’t detect any signs of the missing aircraft or an emergency beacon. The crew called off the search at that point because they hadn’t received any notice of a missing plane.

On Monday, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office contacted the NPS about a missing person, 47-year-old Joseph Radford of Glendale. The Sheriff’s Office determined that Radford had an aircraft that was missing as well.

The NPS then redeployed search aircraft to the area, but has yet to find the missing plane. The Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation as well and has been contacting backpackers known to have been in the area. The NPS estimates the total search area is currently 600 square miles.

Anybody who has seen Mr. Radford or his aircraft since Friday at 8:30 a.m., is asked to contact the National Park Service at (928) 638-7805.
