PLEASE HELP! Cannot get ANYTHING from my PRO-97!

i just recently bought a RS PRO-97 scanner. i have a lot of things programmed into it, not sure at all if it's programmed in properly or not though and i haven't heard ANYTHING come out of it

i have some MOT programmed, FM programmed and WX programmed and some FIPCodes even programmed. i haven't even been able to listen to any local or weather at all.

ANY HELP\SUGGESTIONS\TIPS\IDEAS\COMMENTS APPRECIATED. but please don't just refer me to a wiki on here, i've read all that i could on here that i could find to pertain to my situation and nothing helps. unless of course you have something i more than likely haven't seen.

Press the WX (far right side of the keypad) and see if you can pick up any NOAA broadcass. If you can't get any, your radio is bad and will have to be returned. If you can hear weather broadcasts, something else is wrong and we'll have to figure out what it is.

yeah i can press it down, hold it down or get the SAME standy and don't hear a thing.

i can BARELY hear the squelch if i put my ear right to it and turn it comletely counter clockwise


i guess i'll exchange it tomorrow and try again? is this common and\or happened before that you buy a brand new one from radio shack and it doesn't work right out of the packaging?

I just picked up my new pro 97 today. I was in a local radio shack to buy one, and the only one they had left was being held for a guy who was on his way in to pick it up in exchange for the one that he had just bought at a different radio shack in another town. He happened to arrive while I was still there so I asked him what happened and he said that it hadn't worked right from the start so he was in for an exchange. I wished him good luck , left and drove to another town and bought mine. While they were trying to program it with our local freqs. it quit working or just wouldnt download the freqs from their scancat light software so they gave me another one and it programed just fine. It kind of seems like its a 50/50 chance of getting a good one when you buy one at the big R. Mine is working fine right now , I just have a lot to learn about all the features it has and all the things that it will do. I guess since they make millions of these things its just a crap shoot as to what your gona get. Seems like we cant buy anything once nowdays as we have to exchange anything we buy at least once and sometimes twice to get it to work. Im on pins and needles right now hoping the new pro 97 will keep working. But good luck with yours. The guy at Radio Shack told me if I have any problems in the first 3 months bring it back for and exchange, no questions asked. We'll See.,.,,..,..,.,,...........,.,.,.,.,, Good Luck

when i went down and got mine they had 5 i don't think i'll have a problem. i'm in old far town, i don't know of any that are scanner enthusiasts lol.

well i got the new radio

i am able to get the weather now at least and the hissing sound. i wasn't getting that before
