Hey all,

I'm fairly new to scanning as this is my FIRST scanner! I did a LOT of research before hand and realized that my area needed a TRUNKED scanner. So I went out and purchased the RadioShack Pro97. Also, do to the hor0ror stories I read about programming, I'm using the trial version of Win97 to program the scanner.

My goal is to be able to listen to the Town of Montgomery, Village of Walden, Village of Maybrook, Middletown, and Newburgh.

I attempted to program them, and have had mixed results. On some occasions, I've heard all of the above. However, as far as I know, those areas have pretty heavy traffic over the radio; especially the Town of Montgomery, Village of Walden, and the Village of Maybrook (those are my priorities). However, I RARELY hear anything from them. I tuned each in ONCE last night for about 30 seconds each, and that was it. Obviously, I must be doing something wrong.

I have attached a picture of my program configuration. I'd appreciate it if you can tell me if I'm doing something wrong.

Also, I have followed THIS and RR programming guide. As far as what "site" and what talk group I need. If I'm correct, Maybrook, Montgomery, and Walden would be in Site 2 - Correct (got this from the n2fg site).

Do I need to program all of the other sites as well?

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you!

Jnick

P.S. - I have also read something about rebanding to NEXTEL . . . does this affect me? Would I need RS to reband my scanner?

put the frequencies in numerical order low to high....UNCHECK the DELAY box ...you "should " be ok now...also "check" the "CLOSED" box to hear only the Talk Groups you entered

Just to clarify, LCN 01 must be in channel 01, LCN 02 in channel 02 and so on, and so on. They mut be in LCN order...In most cases with EDACS channel 00 is left blank because the LCNs usually start with 01.

You may want to try listening again at a different time. One of my local systems is most active during the day and trying to listen during the night time will make it seem like it is not working.

You only need to program Beacon tower but you have a lot of it wrong. Do it as shown in the attachment. Expect changes soon as NYCOMCO will probably move frequencies to fill in the blank LCN's.
