Wyoming Death Code

Here in Wyoming, mostly along the I-80 corridor I have heard,

10-79: Notify Coroner (PD, SO, Fire, EMS)
10-79 (D)elta: Notify Coroner (Death) (S&R)

11-44 is a statewide CHP code and is used by many agencies that use 10 and 11 code in California.

The LAPD used to use DB.

EMS and first responders have to follow a set protocol in order to declare a death before the victim is examined by a physician. Sometimes a death will be called a DNR or Do Not Resuscitate. There are 8 criteria for a first responder and EMS to follow before a DB, DOA and an 11-44 are called. They are extreme injuries that are very obvious. You can find them with a Google search.

During my career I had to declare three 11-44's. One by reason of "excessive grey matter missing," another due to "advanced levity" and another on a drowning where the victim was underwater for 2 hours.

First responders need to declare a fatality as soon as possible so that
reponding units can terminate their Code 3 response. Another reason is so that EMS units can return to available status.

For the agencies I listen to in California, it could be:
10-55
11-44
926

I have recently heard people talk about their 926 computer or other devices.

It appears that the Wisconsin State Patrol uses the APCO code of 10-79.

In the Milwaukee area when an EMT unit is terminating efforts to resusitate a patient they get permission from the doctor on the radio to go 10-99.

Harris County SO, Texas uses DOA or DOS-Dead on Arrival or Dead on Scene.
All the Volunteer VFDs in the area use 10-50 F1-F4 the F codes being the age

For medical at my dispatch we say Patient Code 73

For Police and Fire we just say the patient is 10-7

We also have 10-46F which is Vehicle accident with fatality

We use 10-70 also for CAD purposes

10-89 is used by most agencies although some use Signal Codes or 11-Codes as well...

Lincoln NE code 35

Damn, ya beat me to Lincoln.

I hear a lot of code 38 too, which is shorthand for mental issues, though if you look at the list on RR, it says 38 is an animal problem.

One thing Lincoln has no shortage of, crazy people. I noticed too, since last May 5th, when my brother died at home in his sleep, that unattended deaths are quite common in this town (and likely elsewhere too). I hated the day he died, I had police in my house most of the morning and into early afternoon.
