(Fort Wayne - WANE) Cops have an idea someone could be up to no good when they find a police scanner inside their car. That was the case last Friday for some officers with the Allen County Sheriff's Warrants Division. They were staking out a Fort Wayne home in hopes of nabbing a man wanted by authorities in southern Indiana for causing a death while driving drunk.

Officers got a tip that the man in question, Nicholas Fisher, would be visiting a home in the 1700 block of Lower Huntington Road. When they determined Fisher wasn't there, officers stuck around in case he showed up. A short time later, 31-year old Corey Lee Bailey of Fort Wayne showed up at the house. Officers went up to Bailey because he looked similar to Fisher, the man they were really looking for. That's when they heard a police scanner inside Bailey's vehicle, which is illegal with a few exceptions. They arrested Bailey and when they searched him they found $3000 in cash. Allen County Drug Task Force Officers were then called to the scene to search Bailey's vehicle. Inisde it they found $27,000 in cash and 5 pounds of marijuana.

As for Nicholas Fisher, authorities are still looking for him.

LOL, what an idiot! He drives up to the house, sees all the police cars and police officers yet leaves his scanner on. What a dope head! Must be a big time dealer carrying $30k on himself.

At least the media pointed out that "... with a few exceptions"

Actually they were on a stack out. So I'm guessing they had the undercover cars. I guess he wasn't listening close enough to the scanner to find out they were there watching that house. Because they talk about the house they are watching.

My question to the writer of that story. No matter what a person with a police scanner in there car is up to no good?

I would have to presume that the car they were in to drive to the story most likely had a scanner in it, were they up to no good? Hypocrite.

Someone had posted about profiling in the Tavern ... I mistakenly thought the officers were profiling scanner owners as people up to no good - in fact it was just the authors opinion - at least I hope so!

I would figure that the overall number of people who own scanners and are up to no good is very low! Even if they were talking only about mobile use of scanners. In that case the percentage would go up; but it still wouldnt be accurate of the total population.
