Pontotoc County supervisors have agreed to a lease-purchase bid of $230,199 on a 60-month financing for the new equipment for the E-911 office. The single source bid item came in from Motorola.
The equipment is a serious upgrade from the out-date equipment which has been servicing Pontotoc County for 14 years.
E-911 coordinator Johnny Baggett is pleased with the decision by the supervisors to purchase new equipment.
“We have had some problems with the old recording system. It is an old system. It has been running 14 years.
“With all the technology changes that is taking place we really needed to do something about getting a new system.
Baggett said the new system would allow for taping of all radio traffic into the E-911 system. “Right now, all we can record is the E-911 calls.”
The system should be up and running some time in early 2008.
The equipment will be housed at the back of the old jail, which will serve as the dispatch office.
The new address system will go into effect by December 31 for those residents living on Highway 6 East and West.
Residents should have a letter in the mail at this moment and the name will change from Hwy 6 East and west to Veterans Hwy W or Veterans Hwy E.
The county presently owns Highway 6 east from the city limits to the bridge at Longview, in the future more of the road will be turned over to the county as the new highway is complete.
Out on Highway 6 West the county owns from the city limits to 6 and 6 Junction.
E911 director Johnny Baggett said citizens are not to begin using the new designation yet. “We have to prepare for this name change, so the new name should not be used until we notify you either in the mail or at your door step.”
Numbers should remain the same on the west bound highway, with limited re-numbering on the east bound highway.
On the four lane from Rogers Furniture to the Lafayette County line all these numbers will change because originally the numbers flowed onto there from old highway six “and now we have to start from the bridge at Highway 15 because that is the state road.”
In other supervisor business the board voted to purchase two dump trucks, one for district three and one for district four at $166,824 each.
The board also rejected the bids that were submitted for the Town Square Post Office ramp, as well as adopted a flood plain ordinance.
