I got some info tonight that the Poplar Bluff PD - and probably FD as well will be going to a new trunked 800 MHz NXDN system in the near future. I think the license is WSA1268 granted in January of this year. It isn't active as of yet AFAIK, but will keep my eye on it. No other info at this time.

There are 3 sites, each with 5 frequencies. Location 1 is the Water Department Tower. Location 3 is the VA Med Center. Location 5 is the Industrial Park Water Tank.

Today the PBPD is using this system.

I was monitoring it by scanning all 15 freqs. of the three Locations in conventional mode.

Loc 1 is Site 1 Ran 1 & Loc 3 is Site 2 Ran 2; no activity on Loc 5 heard yet.

There is a control channel for each Site and the most common Digital Type is NX4, som IDS & some P25. This may need to be programmed differently than I thought.

I had hoped I had found on the FCC site under Frequency ID the LCN for these freqs, but they do not seem to trunk. The LCN numbers were 1 thru 5 arranged differently on each of the three Locations.

Ofcourse, it may be to early for things to be working but the PD seems to be using it fine.

Maybe together we can figure this out with a bit more monitoring.

Frequency numbers and location numbers on FCC licenses/applications are usually meaningless. It's just the order that the data was entered on the form.

Thank you for the information it sure seems correct!
I read the following back in 2017 but did not follow it very carefully.
Here it is, maybe you can find something interesting, if ture it sure would be nice.
From a post on RR.Com around 2017:

Here's something to make ALL your lives a little easier with NEXEDGE trunking systems - 99.5% of all North American systems follow this channel ID table.

Put in all repeater outputs shown on the license (usually listed as 'FB8'), and the number next to the frequency is what goes in the 'LCN' box in Sentinel. Even if some of the channels might not be in use at the moment, the control channel calls the assignment by the channel ID (very similar to the way a
Motorola Type-II system does). No need to spend hours or days on low-traffic systems anymore...

Take a look at this site here in NJ for a better description:

Update on the new system.

Used Analyze for the LCN Finder in my SDS200 for about 1.5 days and found 5 out of 6 LCNs per Site. I found the first 5 LCNs in about 30 minutes but the last LCN is still yet to show up.

The table below shows what I found. The small c on two freqs are Control Channels & the LCNs with a “?” next to them are the LCNs not yet found.

The different TGIDs are now showing up. Everything was TGID 100. Putting the TGID in Sentinel on SEARCH will let to see their values & if you are also listening or recording the audio you can associated the two.

I still have not heard any traffic on Loc 5.

The SDS200 is now “Trunking” very well and I have included an “hpe” file for those of you who are interested in see what all I have found thus far.

Do not forget to remove the .zip extension from the .hpe file.

That is because it is NOT a zIP file, that is why I mentioned in my post not to forget to remove the .ZIP extension from the .hpe file name.

RR only allows certain files to be attached to posts and the .ZIP is one of them.

Once you do this it should result in a file that Sentinel can import as a new Favorites File.

When I first saw this trick used several years ago, I too asked the same question you did.

Hope this helps, let me know if you run into more problems.

I've been monitoring PBPD using RF23's list and for the most part it is working well... I have a couple of questions though: Using ProScan, I only have shown about 60 hits on the "PB City Police" talk group, all from the "Water Tower" site over the weekend. Granted this is NOT monitoring 24/7, but still not a lot of hits. I've shown NO hits from the "VA Building" site at all and I'm wondering if this the reason the hit counts are so low?

My second question is does anybody know that whether or not the "EMS" talk group is just a simucast from Buther Co EMS's frequency?

I too find the VA site to be around 10 to 40X weaker than the other site. I know someone that lives between the two sites (less than 4 miles between them) and he has the same problem. Fortunately, I can get both Sites but I am using a full Sized ST2 antenna in the attic.

You are correct, if you are missing one site you will be missiing around half of the transmissions.

What are you using for an antenna?

I have even checked the freqs. give us to make for sure they were not INPUT but they are the high-power OUTPUT repeaters. I have also checked my antennas, cables, & radio thinking something was wrong with them.

Since I do not normally listen to EMS I cannot help you with that question. I think PB has two EMS services.

You mentioned you are using ProScan, to get a more detailed record you might try while viewing the log grid, checking the very first box in the upper right corner that reads "Each transmission new row".

i checked the FCC site for a coverage map and it seems that each site is supposed to cover about a 20 mile radius around the site, which overlaps close to 90+% . Therefore, the VA site should not be weaker according to this info, unless it is still incomplete. However, I wonder why the cars do not seem to have problems picking up the VA site? The attic ST2 antenna I mentioned is using commercial grade 800 MHz cable with N connectors at each end (not PL259 connectors that leak badly at this freq.). In addition, the cable is only about 5 feet longer than needed.
